Free Music Review: Destined for the heavens!
Hit: 5 Stars

Norah Jones has one of the most beautifully melodic voices of modern music, able to just come into your homes and your hearts and warm your soul. I feel that's the best way to describe the feeling you get when listening to her music...warming. Pulling similarities to the greats like Billy Holiday, Norah has a sound that, while all her own, feels familiar, and not that `oh god not again' kind of familiar but that `it's nice to be home' kind of familiar. It's about time that some new talent emulates the old talent of artist now past.

On beautiful tracks like the title song `Come Away With Me' as well as the opener `Don't Know Why' and the closer (and my personal favorite) `The Nearness of You', Norah gives the listener every `right' reason to listen to her again and again. Norah is able to take classic's by Hank Williams and Hoagy Carmichael and make them all her own, adding layers to each track of class and sincerity. Norah rightfully won multiple Grammy's for this album and was shotgun blasted into superstardom, and she's one star that I'm glad hasn't burnt-out.

Wonderful CD!!! Her soft, yet forceful voice sets the tone for all of her songs...I play it all the time, and sing along, in spite of my horrid singing voice.

Free Music Review: The Album that Established Norah Jones
Hit: 5 Stars

Norah Jones, daughter of famed sitar player Ravi Shankar, began listening to jazz at a young age. She attended performing arts school and soon began performing in jazz clubs as a vocalist and pianist, often backing up other musicians. 'Come Away with Me' is the album that really established her and for which she won several 2003 Grammy Awards, including "Record of the Year", "Album of the Year", "Song of the Year", and "Best New Artist." This is quite an accolade for a debut album. The most memorable song from this album (the one that won "Song of the Year") is its hit single, "Don't Know Why," a jazz ballad featuring a sentimental harmonic sequence, appropriately accompanying the song's lyrics. The tune is constructed of a simple 'AABA' jazz refrain form. "Don't Know Why" also boasts bluesy jazz licks on the piano, demonstrating Jones's piano proficiency in addition to her songwriting and vocals. This girl can do everything!

What else can you expect to find on this album? More orignal tunes in Norah's unique style: mellow performances suitable for a jazz nightclub but mixed with a subtle twinge of country. Still not satisfied? Just look at Ms. Jones on the cover. Ain't she beautiful?

Free Music Review: Excellent album!!

A very relaxing, chill, with a "morning-coffee-on-the-weekend" type music that I highly recommend. This and her last album, Feels Like Home, is a timeless classic and two of my favorites. A must have in your CD collection.

Free Music Review: Squeaky Clean
Hit: 2 Stars

Norah Jones is O.K. I think she has pretty nice hair and great eyeliner going on. Her music is OK too-sometimes I roll my car window down and listen to her voice when I am alone and sigh out loud on a Fall day, my hands languorously hanging out the car window.
However, Norah is just Norah. She has a voice lacking any history, dirt, or pain. I don't get the edge, I don't hear any knowledge of dirty martinis, swaying sequins, or too many sweaty bodies crammed in a smoke filled club. I like jazz-but I like jazz for the dirty history it tells. I like hearing the dry voices sing in desperation for an audience to listen and commiserate. I like the sound of a few missed notes because the singer is staring up to the sky wishing they were someone else. Norah's voice gives the impression of being old and having that special "twang", however, upon a few listening-it really has nothing. It's just a nineteen-year old girl in a music studio, wearing a set of headphones, and someone is shouting, "Again Norah!, we some more emphasis on Shoot the Moon!-make it sound sexy honey, think SULTRY"....
Does Norah know what she is singing about-most likely, not a clue. She may help pen a few words here and there on the album, but Norah with her perfect wavy hair and perfect skin has no clue what the meaning of jazz is. For now, I'll be happy that she doesn't-I wouldn't want her to tarnish her sweet image. Fun music for a teenager wanting something different-boring for someone wanting something with a bit of history to a voice, and looking for music that comes with a past.
