Free Music Notes for Not Too LateFree Music Review: Oddly, I like this better than the first two CDs 4.5 stars here Hit: 5 StarsThis is the only one I've listened to through and bought. It's a good solid listening experience.
My big complaint is that this CD will not rip to my iPod on either a Mac or a Windows-based system. I'm not sure what disc protection schema they're using, but I bought this CD in hard copy so I could rip it down and carry it with me via the iPod and it's pretty disappointing that I can't do what I want with music I thought I'd purchased the rights for my own use.
Free Music Review: much better than "Feels Like Home" but... Hit: 4 Stars...still not quite on par with her debut, "Come Away With Me" which was pretty much flawless. "Feels Like Home" was about 30% good, this one is closer to 60-70% which is really about all you can ask for in most albums.
"Sinkin' Soon" was by far the best cut, with a gorgeous horn section...has the sort of gleefully dark energy often found in Eastern European music.
The songs I didn't like were the rather bland numbers, such as the first track, "Wish I Could"---but there was nothing outright unlistenable on this CD, which is a huge improvement over Norah's second album.
Free Music Review: Not Too Late -- Not So Bad Hit: 3 StarsNorah Jones has an especially pleasing voice and it comes through is this particular CD. It is worthy listen yet takes a few passes across the tracks to get a warm, fuzzy feeling about it.
Free Music Review: Why do people even bother Hit: 1 StarsNorah Jones along with Macy Gray have the worst voices I've ever heard. There's nothing that Jones does to distinguish herself the same sounding songs over and over. With that voice I'm not quite sure how she has accomplished 3 cds already. It's shocking really and there are so many female artists that have better voices then what she has so do yourself a favor never buy a cd of Nora Jones unless you want to use it as a coaster. Otherwise she's just not worth listening too.
Free Music Review: A more introspective Norah...but this CD does grow on you Hit: 4 StarsOn first hearing this CD, I was disappointed, it just seemed kind of blah and melancholy after her previous Feels Like Home. But it got better with repeated playing. My favorites off the bat were Wake Me Up, Rosie's Lullaby, and Not Too Late, they all have easily remembered refrains that stick in the mind. But some of the others, if listened to carefully (that and reading the lyrics, since I have a difficult time hearing all of the words...a problem with modern artists, don't have that problem with Ella Fitzgerald, but I digress!) are interesting or have their own appeal. Like Broken, whimsical and sweet, is she talking about a toy marionette, or a homeless person? Not My Friend, is haunting and beautiful, and ends on an assertive but uneasy note, a touch of menace at the end. My Dear Country seems like a bit of a johnny-come-lately, now that even the Republicans are having reservations about Iraq, it doesn't seem courageous for Jones to come out with it now, more of a safe bet. I did like the use of the tuba in that one since my son plays one and rarely is this instrument used in popular music. Little Room is cute and a little naughty, I can see this one especially appealing to men. Sinkin' Soon has a distinctive ragtime feel that makes it stand out from the others melodically. In conclusion, I will probably buy this CD, after repeated listening to my library's copy.
