Free Music Notes for Nouvelle Vague

Free Music Review: Relaxing AND Catchy!
Hit: 5 Stars

Well .... this album combines two of the better qualities I like in a CD. Nouvelle Vague is relaxing -- and extremely catchy! 'Love Will Tear Us Apart' sets the tone from the very beginning ... the comfortable bossa nova rhythm leads to a chorus I found myself whistling along with ... while Nouvellle Vague's catchy take on 'Just Can't Get Enough' had me humming along. I mentioned in another review that I'm not too familiar with the 70s/80s originals ... and because of that I find that this album of covers is a stand-alone, especially for those that are fans of rhythmic bossa nova, samba, and jazz. For me, every song on this album is strong ... As a picky and eccentric listener, this is one of the few times I can play through an entire album and never have to skip a track. It doesn't mean that I don't have favorites on this album -- 'Marian' was the reason I decided to buy the CD. I bought this CD with Bande a Part, because there were several songs on that CD that I felt compliment this one ... but this CD, Nouvelle Vague, is the stronger of two excellent CDs.

I really really like this CD. I found it as a result of typing in the word "Hipster" in the Listmania search. The female vocalist on this CD has such a light airy voice that it is at once soothing and relaxing. Her voice reminds me of a well-rested and slightly medicated Bjork. There are a few songs on this CD which most of us will be familiar with since they are featured in popular commercials. Off the top of my head, I can recall hearing: "I Just Can't Get Enough" and "I Melt With You" in commercials.

This is the type of music I picture being played in coffee shops with a bunch tres of cool hipsters in their too tight jeans as they are writing poetry. I also envision the beats sitting around a rundown loft in Greenwich village debating Plato and Marx while playing this CD in the background. This is a superior CD, please support artists who make real music.

Free Music Review: What a fun album! :-)
Hit: 5 Stars

What a fun album this is! For the most part, it's a relaxed, lounge take on some classic "New Wave" songs. My wife thinks that they should have hired a more talented singer who didn't require any pitch correction, but I thought the singing was fine --- if it lacked polish, it more than made up for it in sultriness, especially on "Too Drunk to >blank<".

The stand-out track on this album is "Guns of Brixton." It's a slight departure from the lounge act --- it's more of a protest song.

This is a fun album for fans of New Wave who are willing to hear their favorites songs from a different perspective.

Free Music Review: In Love With This Album!
Hit: 5 Stars

I absolutely LOVE this album! I listen to many different genres of music but I have to say that this album is one of my ultimate favorite cd's! I don't get tired of listening to it! I'm so glad I was introduced to Nouvelle Vague and I have shared this cd with many friend of mine...I then recently purchased their second album Bande A Part, but I was disappointed however, it's not nearly as good as their first...I love 80's music, Bossa Nova, AND Nu Wave, definetly recommend this cd!

Free Music Review: excellent cover songs!
Hit: 5 Stars

While, the best tracks on this album are the versions of "Dancing with Myself" and "Bella Lugosi Is Dead" all of the songs are distincive and very cool. I can't believe that I haven't heard more about this album, I came across it by accident and I am glad that I did. I recommend this album to music fans of the 80's as well as those beyond that era. I grew up in the 90's listening to goth and alternative and I love this stuff!
