It sounds kind of gimmicky, but the new wave/bossa nova/chanteuse concept really works. It's cool, funny, and groovy all at once. If you like to experiment with different sounds, this is a great CD, especially if you know the original versions of the songs. They kind of immediately get under your skin because they are so familiar, yet the arrangements are totally different, & all the female singers are outstanding.Free Music Review: This album rocks!

I heard 'This is not a Love Song' on an indie station and HAD to have it. After a concerted search, I am happy to say I am not disappointed. It seems everyone fell short of liking 'Guns of Brixton', but it is one of my favorites. Yes, 'Too Drunk..' kinda falls short, but it is more than made up for on surrounding tracks. This disc is so amazing and really channels the vibe of having grown up on punk, new wave, and alternative music and matured into a listener who appreciates blues, jazz, and other songs best sung in the dark, smoky den of a bar off the beaten path. Or is it punk? Anyway I've got a weak spot for lounge music and this may best, edgiest lounge you'll ever hear. Frankly, I'm not all that familiar with most of the originals so I have no idea how much they've been maimed here. An excellent downtempo ~ Bossanova rework of those 80's songs that everyone loved and now occasionally listens to.
I found that her interpretations held up better then the actual orginal works. "Making Plans For Nigel" is excellent along with "Just can't get enough".
