Free Music Notes for O Holy Night / Luciano Pavarotti / Special Deluxe Edition (Decca)Free Music Review: Pleasant listening Hit: 5 Stars
This is a CD I have listened to repeatedly. Pavarotti sings with sincerity and great musicality. The songs are familiar and some are 'potboilers' (such as Schubert's "Ave Maria" and "Panis Angelicus"). Pavarotti's voice is characteristically warm, open-throated and full yet there is an intimacy to these recordings, which were made over several decades.
Pavarotti sings with various top class orchestras and some songs have a choral backing. There are 17 songs, which is generous.
It seems strange to have included "Che faro senza Euridice?" on what is otherwise a CD of exclusively Christian music, but Pavarotti does such a beautiful job with it that that is a minor quibble.
This is a CD which will give the listener years of pleasure.O Holy Night / Luciano Pavarotti / Special Deluxe Edition (Decca)
Free Music Review: The most beautiful of all Hit: 5 Stars
I have many Christmas albums, but I have to say, this is the cream of the crop. How could you expect anything less from the greatest tenor of a lifetime? The entire CD is absolutely breathtaking. "Pieta, Signore" (Have mercy on me, Lord) - is one of the most hauntingly beautiful songs ever written, and there is NO ONE that can deliver it like the Great Man. There is a passion, sincerity, reverence, urgency and depth to his singing here that is just unsurpassed. You will come away KNOWING that he believed every word that passed his lips. This album does exactly what all holiday albums should do, which is make us feel, realize and honor the true meaning of Christmas.
If you're looking for a Christmas album to convey the spirit and meaning of the season, this is the one. I was completely blown away, yet humbled by this supreme compilation. Bravo, Maestro, bravo! And thank you...
Free Music Review: For the meaning of Christmas -- Hit: 5 Stars
For enjoying the spirit of the Christmas season, I rely on The Time Life Platinum Christmas Collection, "Treasury of Christmas I", 3 CD set of 36 songs by various artists, UPC 1130-11311-2. But for the MEANING of Christmas, only Pavarotti's renditions of these timeless, beautiful songs meet the challange. I've listened to others, from Il Divo to Carerras and Domingo, but none meld the scores, arrangements and precise delivery and have the same effect upon the listener. This is Pavarotti, the ultimate tenor, recorded at his best.
Free Music Review: Same music on a PBS Pavarotti special? Hit: 5 Stars
I copied from PBS on December 1983 a PBS special "Christmas Special" at Notre Dame Cathederal in Montreal, Canada, which has, I think, the very same music. I play the Christmas VHS each Christmas and the cover of this CD looks the same as the one at the Cathederal in Montreal, Canada. Is this the very same music? I don't own this CD, but I plan on purchasing it. Unfortunately, after 24 years of watching it, the VHS is starting to lose some color, but the music in intact. Just wondering.
Free Music Review: Pavarotti the name says it all Hit: 5 Stars
This is one of 5 cd's that we purchased to help in some small way to capture the voice of the ages that was quieted this past year. Now we will be able to enjoy his emense talent simply by a click of the switch. Purchasing this and the other 4 items was so easy on Amazon no hunting through aisles of cd's-very pleased with all 5 and unwilling to single one out as the best of the best. Each is a treasure. But for seasonal music this is the primo selection of all.
