Free Music Review: A Career Peak From Oasis

In 1997 the band's third offering "Be Here Now" hit the stores with a lot of public anticipation. The finished product didn't disappoint me at all! The songs were recorded using many different studios between October '96 and April '97. The line-up consisted of Liam Gallagher on vocals, his brother and main songwriter Noel Gallagher on lead guitar/vocals, Paul "Bonehead" Arthurs on rhythm guitar, Paul McGuigan on bass and Alan White on drums.
The music on this album brings back memories, I remember when I first heard this CD in the spring of '99; not the happiest of times for me but I still enjoy playing this album since all songs on it are great!
Some highlights are the two excellent ballads "Stand By Me" and "Don't Go Way" with catchy singing and cool guitar. The first cut "Do You Know What I Mean?" has an experimental arrangement with a lot of strange feedback effects, backward voices etc. but its one of my favorites. Guitarist Noel did the lead vocals on only one song this time: the somewhat psychedelic seven-minute "Magic Pie". I like the intro chords in "The Girl In The Dirty Shirt" going from Em to G and then landing on that C7 chord. The up-tempo "I Hope, I Think, I Know" also stand out with well-crafted verses and chorus. In the anthemic "All Around The World" the chorus is played in three different keys throughout its unexpected length of nine minutes! Before the album's conclusion, a short reprise of the chorus is featured incorporating a horn section.
Fans of 90's alternative rock should give this CD a spin!
