Free Music Review: 4.5 Stars: Keep the Albums Coming Boys
Hit: 5 Stars

The saga of Oasis and the Gallagher brothers goes something like this: They release one of the best smash-you-in-the-mouth rock and roll albums ever as a debut (an album I still listen to regularly to this day) and follow it up with a slightly subdued but equally fantastic sophmore effort--thereby setting impossibly high expectations for whatever follows. Amid incredible hype, they release Be Here Now, which had the potential to be great but was so obviously influenced by copious cocaine use and utter indifference that it turned out to be bloated and mediocre.

Their next two albums are not terrible but demonstrate that the band was searching for new direction. In 2005, they made what is, in my view, a great return to form with Don't Believe the Truth, an album that features great, straightforward drum work and fantastic guitars. I listened to this album probably 1000 times and never got sick of it.

With Dig Out Your Soul, Oasis solidifies the fact that they are back. Noel Gallagher is still the best writer of pure Rock and Roll in the past 20 years, and I love Liam Gallaher's vocals. Dig Out Your Soul is a classic rock and roll album with great guitars and snarling vocals. It is the kind of music that you can simply turn up and enjoy. These guys don't have a political agenda, and they aren't out to promote a cause, which frankly is a breath of fresh air in a world when every band with a contract feels compelled to pontificate about the state of the world. The only thing that is keeping me from giving DOYS a full five stars are the tracks written by the members of the band not named Gallagher--I don't much care for them.

Hit: 5 Stars

The first thing you will notice while listening to the new Oasis album is how amazing it sounds. Produced by D. Sardy (Nine Inch Nails, The Rolling Stones, Rage Against the Machine, etc), these songs are arranged primarily around the beat. During this "Loud Wars" era, alot of new records are sounding more distorted, drowning out all the dynamics of the music. On Dig Out Your Soul, you truly get a broader and enjoyable listening experience!

Many fans believe that Oasis lost their flare years back. While they obviously don't empower that pop sensationalism that sparked a nation with "Live Forever" or "Wonderwall" 15 years ago, no one can deny their continued success as musicians and a powerful live entity.

Someone once said, "A song is only as good as the moment you hear it." I think that holds very true for a band like Oasis. As we get older we become harder to please, preoccupied and someimes just bored. It's easy to remember those great songs from our youth. While those songs capsized a time, Oasis has not released a single bad album to date. Maybe a couple lacklusters, but all had some really great tunes to contribute.

The music pretty much finds a band coming full circle with everything they're about. With so much attitude brought to you with nonchalance swagger, I imagine Liam concluding with "Thank You, and F**k You, Goodnight!!" And that would be just fine; cos it's that good.

Dig Out Your Soul(2008) will coninue to shine as one of Oasis's best for ages to come !

Free Music Review: Oasis is back... with the best album of 2008.
Hit: 5 Stars

If you didn't think Oasis had returned to form anytime since 1995's Morning Glory or 1997's Be Here Now, you can buy this album knowing the past is behind us (and them). 'Dig Out Your Soul' combines the pure rock and consistency of 2005's 'Don't Believe the Truth' with the magic of the first two (or three, depending on your view) albums while also nailing the flawed attempt that was 'Standing on the Shoulder of Giants.'

Noel Gallagher (lead guitar, songwriting on six songs, and lead vocals on three) leads the way. Lyrically he's still one of the best in the world. His vocals take on new heights in the unforgettable 'Falling Down' and catchy '(Get Off Your) High Horse Lady.'

Liam, Noel's little brother, deserves a lot of credit for growing as a songwriter (three on the album). 'I'm Outta Time' might be the best ballad since 'Wonderwall' or 'Stop Crying Your Heart Out,' complete with a John Lennon speech-sample. 'Ain't Got Nothin'' brings back memories of 'The Meaning of Soul' (a fan favorite), while 'Soldier On' closes out the album perfectly. His vocals could (and still can) lead a generation.

Bassist Andy Bell contributes 'The Nature of Reality while guitarist Gem Archer wrote 'To Be Where There's Life,' with one of the great moments on the album... "Dig out your soul/'Cos here we go!" You'll be singing along, with the stereo turned up to 11, because Oasis is back. This is rock 'n' roll at its best this decade. Time to wake up, America.

Free Music Review: Continuing evolution of the last great rock band
Hit: 5 Stars

Say what you want about Oasis, but it is difficult to name another currently existing band that is 7 albums into their career and can still make a record like "Dig Out Your Soul." This is a mature album that speaks as an album, rather than just a collection of songs, in much the same way that "What's the Story Morning Glory" did. "Dig Out Your Sole" shares a consistency of sound and theme as did "Morning Glory," though it intentionally lacks the sing-along moments and direct, glam-rock emotional appeal.

A different kind of mood dominates "Dig Out Your Soul"--- something that might be described as droning psychedelia. The most obvious influence is a song like "Tomorrow Never Knows" from the Beatles' "Revolver." There are forays into blues and country, but even they are pushed through an almost brooding, smoky haze. The vocals throughout are mostly buried deep in the mix, as if Liam and Noel are singing in another room.

This isn't a depressing album, but it is certainly the first by Oasis to prioritize an overall feel well above producing individual hit songs. This is the kind of album that can only be made by a mature band with a solid fan base that can afford to take chances. Despite their antics, Oasis really do not appear to be in it for the money (or girls, or drugs) anymore. "Dig Out Your Soul" is proof that they remain intent on making good on their promise that they are the best rock band in the world.

Free Music Review: Oasis nails it !!!!
Hit: 5 Stars

This album is the perfect "next step" after Don't Believe The Truth...DBTT was raw rock n roll....stripped down, kick butt stuff. Now we have Dig Out Your Soul...which, still kicks some serious butt...but instead of a 'rawness' to it...we get a more polished, produced Oasis. And yet, they manage to pull of the transition from DBTT to DOYS perfectly! This album ROCKS, it bleeds serious emotion and feeling, the lyrics are inspiring no matter what mood you're in, and if it doesn't grab you...then you need some serious "schooling" on what great music is all about....I highly recommend this album. BTW I also had the chance to catch their 12/17/08 Madison Square Garden show and it was a religious experience!!! The show was spectacular and anyone who missed them on tour should be ashamed....you're missing music history in the making...they are truly living legends....see them, experience them, listen to them...before it's too late....'nuff said. Lager and Lime
