Free Music Review: Great!
Hit: 5 Stars

Okay, I'll break down with my input. I've been a long time Oasis fan. From their first album all the way through this gem. Every Oasis album or demo or live performance or boot I've ever heard has its ups and downs. All of Oasis' previously released "official" CD's have had their ups and downs also. But overall, I can say this is close to their best. And though it's short, hey, remember the times the great supergroups of yore used to put out a new "short" piece of vinyl every year or 6 months? I hope this is a renewal of sorts for Oasis and that we will see a new CD in the not too far distant future.

If you have ever gotten into Oasis (and it's a learning and growing process) at all, you will find some of their best work on this CD, "Heathen Chemistry." A few tracks rival previous classics like "Wonderwall," "Champagne Supernova," and though there is no long epic here (boo...), a listen to this on repeat mode is necessary to break all resistance. Which is futile. Because with this CD, there are some instant classics. And though there are faults, they are minor. There is no bad song on this album really, but then I don't think I've ever heard a "bad" Oasis song. Just some ya like a lot better than others.

The best tracks IMO are, in no order, The Hindu Times, Stop Crying Your Heart Out, (Probably) All in the Mind, and Born on a Different Cloud. These are all Oasis at their best. Force of Nature, Hung in a Bad Place, Little by Little and Better Man are very good. Hey, that's most of the album folks. Buy it! Share it. Those rumors of Oasis' demise have been greatly exaggerated.

The opening track The Hindu Times has a defiant, positive drive to it, with a guitar riff that is impossible to dislike. In Stop Crying Your Heart Out, within a sad and reflective context, there is a positive slow beat to this. It's a beautiful song. (Probably) All in the Mind features great backup vocals and an extended guitar solo (again, not nearly long enough), with old time fuzz. Great stuff. The guitar work throughout is brilliant and simple and complex at the same time.

If there was a "best" song here, I'd go with "Born on a Different Cloud" which uses a very simple chord progression to deliver a powerful "best of the Beatles" sound. Complete with psychedelic opening, to the eerie (whether intentional or otherwise doesn't matter to me, it's a tribute at the very least), JOHN LENNON influence. Well, it's a great song over all, and complete with handclaps, guitar work great as always, synthesized sounds and embellishments, and a short solo which sounds exactly like George Harrison. If this had to be Oasis' last song ever on some future tribute album, great.

In summary, this ranks alongside all of the rest of their work, all of which I've found consistently great, innovative, easy to listen to on repeat mode, and my quibbles are few. I do wish the CD was a lot longer, especially the great instrumental on the album, "A Quick Peep," which is OH, WAY TOO QUICK at only a bit over a minute. I could've listened to this little "jam" for 10 minutes or more. Perhaps in the future, they will do such a version "A Long Peep." In many ways, "A Quick Peep" may signal a different direction for Oasis in the future, one more towards a progressive nature, which I think would be fantastic. A Quick Peep sounds very much like an old Genesis song in their prime. Just wish it were a lot longer.

Not maybe, definetly GET IT...
