Free Music Notes for October Project
Free Music Review: Lush Chamber Pop

October Project's eponymous debut recording is a pure pleasure to listen to. No offense to the other members of the band, but Mary Fahl's deeply resonant yet ethereal vocals are the main attraction, truly captivating. That being said, Emil Adler's arrangements are nicely layered, Julie Flanders' lyrics are poignant, and Marina Belica's backup vocals are strong, especially on "Take Me As I Am," which features a beautiful interplay between her voice and Mary's. My other favorite songs on the CD are "Return to Me" and "Wall of Silence," but there really isn't a bad song on "October Project." If you are completely unfamiliar with October Project and are looking for another band as a point of reference, I would agree with the several other reviewers who have likened them to Clannad, although I would point out that October Project definitely does not have the traditional Irish folk sound that Clannad incorporates into many of their songs. If you like this CD, you definitely will also like October Project's second recording, "Falling Farther In," which also is very good, though not quite as good as their debut in my opinion. I highly recommend "Ocotober Project," especially at the low price that it can be purchased for, you won't regret it.
