Free Music Review: Met my very high expectations
Hit: 5 Stars

I had been waiting for this cd for almost 5 years. That is an eternity when your second favorite (after Bad Religion) band takes that long to release their next album. I love all of The Offspring's cds, and I had incredibly high expectations for this, and they were met. The ONLY problem I have with this cd (and their last) is they are just too short. Granted, this one is 10 minutes longer than "Splinter," and it's not unusual for punk cd's to clock in at 30 minutes or even less, but I was just hoping that after 5 years they could put together 45 or 50 minutes.
But hey, if that's your only complaint, maybe that just means it's so good that it seems to fly by and you simply don't want it to end.
The first half of the album is pretty fast-paced and then slows down. But the slow songs are also incredible, with the exception of "Fix You," which I unfortunately would have to say is the Offspring's worst song ever. I usually skip that track, and I can't say that about any other Offspring song on any other record (actually maybe "Denial, Revisited" from Conspiracy of One too).
But other than that, you have your standard fast Offspring melodic rock and roll, with Dexter's voice sounding better than ever at 42. If you liked Offspring's previous records you should definitely like this one. I can't wait for the next one to come out in 2019.

Free Music Review: The strongest Offspring album since "Americana"
Hit: 5 Stars

I've been listening to The Offspring all my life. Ever since Smash, I have been a fan. While Conspiracy Of One and Splinter were decent, they weren't quite up to par with the Offspring I had come to know. This marks a major return to themselves. With songs like "Trust In You" and "Hammerhead" harkening back to the raw days of Ixnay and Smash, and "You're Gonna Go Far, Kid" and "Stuff Is Messed Up" sounding like the more playful album Americana, the album still shows progress in a new direction. "Half-Truism", "Nothingtown", and "Takes Me Nowhere" showing a newer, cleaner, sound. "Let's Hear It For Rock Bottom" shows the influence of the ska-punk band, The Police, in The Offspring.

The album also shows signs of more mature music in songs like "Kristy, Are You Doing Okay?" and "Fix You". They sound more like alternative hits than the punk we've come to know. While they aren't bad, they are strange, but the quality of the rest of the album well makes up for these two misplaced tracks.

This leaves two tracks unmentioned. "A Lot Like Me" and "Rise And Fall". Both are decent songs, but you can't help but hearing Linkin Park and Green Day sounds in the songs, respectively.

While there are a few weak points, for the most part, the album is amazing, and is another solid Offspring release.

Free Music Review: Creative Adaptive Original
Hit: 5 Stars

There are bands who make 2 out of 8 good albums and generally the more they make the worse they get. I honestly do NOT believe that The Offspring is not one of them. I really, really liked this album. I've been listening to them since Ignition and I'm actually impressed for several reasons. For one they've kept their style of music, they've always been true to their art. There are other reviews saying this album isn't as good as other ones, and maybe not as fast. But here's the thing...they still create their style. No one can say this doesn't sound like Offspring because it does, they've only become more creative, adaptive yet still original. And for those who do complain that this doesn't sound exactly like their other albums should be glad. If it did others would comment that this is nothing new and it sounds like all their other albums.
Honestly I think musically, this is their best album. More thought went not only into the words but the musical arrangement. I actually felt emotion (other than anger or frustration) in most of the songs. And the songs hit hard.
So if you can appreciate an honest band perfecting their art you'll love this album. And I'm glad they continue to do what they do.

Free Music Review: An Excellent Album
Hit: 5 Stars

Here we have the Offspring's new album. After listening to it quite a number of times, I am very impressed with it.

I have been an Offspring fan for as long as I can remember, and now everyone is getting older and maturing, fans and the band alike. As a result, some of the songs in this album represent this. "A Lot Like me", and "Fix You" are the two songs that come to mind. Each portraying a much matured offspring sound, similar to that of U2.

That doesn't mean that everything has changed, "Your going to go far kid", "Hammerhead" and "Rise and Fall" bring us back to what the Offspring are all about - Punk.

This album is the product of a much matured offspring in my opinion. Dexter's vocals have improved immensely and the mix of guitars, piano and voice overs make this album a very powerful and exciting one for hardcore offspring fans and those new to the band also.

A highly recommended Album.

Free Music Review: One of their best.
Hit: 5 Stars

It took The Offspring a long time to come out with this album, but it is well worth it. Rise & Fall, Rage & Grace stays true to the Offspring's high energy style while still sounding fresh. I found all the songs to be good, and there are three slower songs on the CD spaced just right to mix things up and keep all the songs from starting to sound the same. The Offspring has been one of my favorite bands for many years, and as a long term listener I was not disappointed with this CD at all. The band members are in their mid 40's now, but his album shows that they have developed well with experience triumphing over age.

A note to parents buying this for their kids, assuming that their kids know whom these guys are, in typical Offspring fashion, this CD is loaded with profanity, but somehow it still seems to fit well with the songs and doesn't seem to be overbearing and unnecessary, although there is a lot of it.
