this is not what i was expecting when i bought this cd. it is not welt part 2, it is too dark park meets crystal method meets the residents; add a few shots of vodka and mix until dizzy. nivek and walk are heading in bold new directions with deft technical mastery that can literally blow your mind. the disc starts with a similar yet different sound from what was heard on their previous effort: welt. the first 2 songs follow that poppy electronica distorted fomula. however, tracks 3-8 are a whole new realm. they defy the concept of what music need be. not so much music as the manipulation of sound in ways so unique and interesting i was in awe of what i was listening to. the songs seem to know just when to throw a hook or groove at you, lest you get lost in the chaos of sounds from which they evolve. track 4 in particular is beyond description in it's manic display of beat and noise. unfortunately, track 9 loses some steam, yet is still interesting. then track 10 comes in a smacks you in the brain with the most insane cut-n-paste distorted guitar ever heard before settling into a more banal mode. be sure to stick around for the worth-while extra noise that follows 10.this disc is best listened to on a high quality 5.1 channel system with a receiver capable of emulating a 5-channel stereo mode (such as denon). listened to that way, at times it sounds as though it was encoded with 5.1 channels of sound, but it was not. that said, i'd *love* to hear this disc mixed into 5 dicreet channels - though i'd probably need a day to recover from the experience afterwards. i'm eagerly anticipating what this duo will create in the future. i'm somewhat disappointed that nivek wishes to travel back into the past and dredge up skinny puppy again. why waste time on an event that has run it's course when such bold and wonderful new realms of sound are opening up before him?
