Free Music Review: OCMS fans ... do NOT overlook this album!
Hit: 5 Stars

I am a big fan of OCMS, however I had never seen this album before? Thus, when I ordered it last week, I was under the assumption that it was a new release. After listening to it I got on Amazon to see what kind of reviews it had gotten, but I was surprised to find that it was released BEFORE OCMS & Big Iron World. I am not sure how I overlooked the release date when I purchased it, but I am very glad I ordered it. Any true OCMS fan should add this one to their collection. I wish to note songs that have been remade since this album, as well as a few songs that never made the newer albums.

-----------------
"Raise a Ruckus Tonight" is a quick and fun song that pretty much tells you to jump on board.

"Tear It Down," the second song, is the original version of the one found on the OCMS self-titled album. This one appears to be a bit slower, and the vocals are slightly higher, almost giving it a whiney sound. It is still a great song, of course.

"Hesitation Blues" is perhaps the second best song on this original album. Considering several other songs from this album were used in subsequent albums, I am confused as to why this one was not used?! This is classic OCMS... and the chorus is perhaps one of the best, as it perfectly matches and blends the song.

"Lonesome Road Blues," "That'll Be A Better Day," and "Boll Weevil" are not standout songs, but they're not duds either.

"Down South Blues" is a quick Americana type song, which makes extreme and excellent use of the harmonica. A definite standout on this album...

"Cocaine Habit" is a song that is also found on Big Iron World, however this one is a bit different. It is much slower and makes use of the kazoo - an interesting twist.

"The Silver Dagger" is perhaps one of the most interesting songs on the album. It's not the best, but it's different. Instead of mixing many instruments like they normally do, this song only features the guitar and the bass for the first few minutes. Only then do other instruments come in - for a short period of time. This one should have made other albums as well...

"Goodbye Booze" is the next to last song on the album, but by far and away the BEST. This song is amazing, and it feels like it came straight from the OCMS album. In fact, I am blown away it wasn't - especially given their emphasis on a cocaine habit, and boozin'. "Well she tore my clothes / She swelled my head / So goodbye booze i'm goin to bed / I had a good time, but we couldn't agree / So you see what booze has done for me / Oh goodbye booze / Forever more / My boozin' days will soon be o'er / I had a good time, but we couldn't agree /So you see what booze has done for me."

And last but not least, "Shack #9" is a tribute to their hometown of Johnson County, TN.

-----------------
Overall, I am sure you can tell I am a bit partial and biased towards OCMS. They are talented musicians who put out some great albums; this one is no exception. Even though it dates back to 2001, you cannot tell you are working backwards in their discography. This album could be placed anywhere in their collection.

It is very similar to OCMS, and quite different than Big Iron World. Regardless, if you are a true OCMS fan, you will be surprised and very pleased with this album!
