Those pachyderms never forget, so I'm thinking you're producing some good stuff. Sweet nectar from the tear ducts of a musician with real soul. Speaking of which, I always used to wonder where the soul was housed in the body, and now I'm thinking, thanks to Dumbo, that it's right there in that spot that I'm always scrubbing at first thing in the morning. It's as if I'm predestined to stimulate my soul as soon as I wake up. I always thought it was just because when you grow up, it's not kosher to dig for nose boogers, but you can root around for eye boogers to your heart's content. Belly lint's like Switzerland: The verdict's still out. It really depends on whether you got a sexy tummy. But I digest!
Speaking of which, should I start collecting my soul crust in a jar? Start ingesting it to live a semi-eternal life like Moses? When I actually cry, am I weakening my soul? Is being lame bad for my well-being? I'm not sure who I am asking these things. I guess I'm still talking to you, Mr. Don't Make Me Spell or Say Your Last Name, Please. Can we be friends on Facebook?
In any case, I've heard all this stuff already on David Byrne albums, but I don't really like his whiny voice, so I'm giving it 5 stars, buddy. I have to go No. 2 right now, actually, but I'm all out of toilet paper. Frown.

While Oliver Mtukudzi--also know as Tuku--has always been revered in his home of Zimbabwe, he has been overshadowed in the American "world music" scene by revolutionary poet Thomas Mapfumo and the pop-party Bhundu Boys. His music is more romantic and bluesy than Mapfumo's, focusing on the grit of life rather than the broader cosmology. He's Ray Charles and Otis Redding to Mapfumo's Bob Marley and Bob Dylan. His voice is gruff but sweet; it implores rather than demands. The music that he creates to carry a song is often light as air, creating a beautiful tension between content and container. Mtukudzi's music has appeared on many compilations over the years, but this is the first full album of Tuku's music to be released in the U.S. It's a gem, with its shimmering guitars; its gentle, insistent bass lines; and a voice that will charm and challenge the listener. --Louis GibsonInternational Music CDs
