I flew in from grad school, knowing that Olivia would be at the downtown Dallas Neiman's (the last Fortnight). She was shopping. She was happy to take time for a photograph or two and told me how to position my head properly--as she's done when I've hauled my family around to see her in concert. Never having missed a day of school, it was worth it. In 11/03, I was given the "Keeper of the Flame" award by (then) CHEC in West Palm Beach. John Easterling was there as another honoree. I hope Olivia always keeps on recording. Every new project offers insinuating songs with meaningful themes, intelligent lyrics and beautiful production. As the years have passed, she has become ever more insightful and reflective. She is way, way beyond the hit record stage, into the sheer artistic. This is such a positive uplifting CD! Olivia has been doing such a great job lately of putting songs out there that are safe for everyone to listen to and enjoy. It is great to hear all of the other people sing with her as well. The duets featuring wonderful songs and artists, some familiar & some not, give this CD such variety that it is a veritable box of treasures. Great music, great change of style & tempo & just a party in & of itself.Free Music Review: Certainly worth 4 Stars
As I understand it, this album is a benefit production for cancer research. It is a quite well-done collection of folk/ballad duets with a variety of artists. The prize goes to the opening cut with Delta Goodrem ["Right Here With You"], but the entire project is worthy of praise, with "The Water Is Wide" being especially good.Olivia is certainly NOT an unknown quantity; she has given us a rather massive selection of records over the years. I'm still in love with her character in "Grease"...and, if the cover photo is accurate, she's the hottest 60 year old I ever saw. She's not to everybody's taste [no singer is], but if you like her, you'll like this.
