Olivia, 70's mellow queen, Grease mega star, Physical guru, cancer survivor, animal advocate, and maker of fine wine, releases her most comprehensive hits package yet, some rarities on this one, let me break it down song by song for you.
If Not For You- her first hit record, a minor top 100 hit in the USA and abroad, an amateurish remake of a Bob Dylan song.
Banks Of The Ohio- a folk song covered many times, by many people, but one of my faves
Let Me Be There- her breakout mega hit in the USA, Nashville played it like crazy, but the good ole boys didn't like an Aussie winning all their awards.Top 5 hit
If You Love Me- the followup single, equally big hit, and the album of the same name hit number one on the charts, top 5 hit
I Honestly Love You- if you haven't heard this you must be living on Mars, her first USA number one single.
Have You Never Been Mellow- number one billboard single, number one album of the same name.
Please Mr. Please- Another Nashville smash song, this one even makes a reference to Nashville. Top 5 hit
Something Better To Do- a saccharin sound Olivia became known for, top 40 hit
Let It Shine-a real hoe down country song, dated lyrics
Come On Over- a classic gem, she revised this accapella for her concert tour, top 40 hit
Don't Stop Believin'- a great single didn't get enough attention, Olivia starts to slide in the charts
Every Face Tells A Story-great song but once again sales are weak
Sam -sam, sam you know where I am, that says it all folks, this one did better in the charts, top 10 hit
Making A Good Thing Better-she started to slide off the charts with this weak single and weak album, sales were bad, could have been her swan song if it hadn't been for Grease the following year.
Hopelessly Devoted To You -she's back in the top 5!! this song is from a movie you may have seen
Summer Nights -another top 10 hit for Olivia from GREASE
You're The One That I Want -ofcourse the smash duet with John Travolta...number one on USA Charts and most of the world
A Little More Love-riding high and literally becoming Sandy 2 on the next album , top 5 hit
Deeper Than The Night - one of my faves, great pop single, top 20 hit
Dancin' 'Round And 'Round- a last try at a country single
Totally Hot-Sandy 2 reincarnated, sounds like it should be from GREASE
Fool Country -rare song never released, except on the b-side of the Xanadu 45 vinyl singles..performed during the finale of Xanadu, didn't make it onto the soundtrack.
Xanadu- duet with ELO doing backup vocals and the music, from the movie of the same name, been remade by other artists, but none stand up to this version, a number one smash single in Europe, top 10 in the USA.
Magic-even Roger Ebert said the movie Xanadu was bearable because of this great song, number one on the charts for several weeks
Suddenly- a great duet with Cliff Richard, a spacy love song, top 20 hit
Physical-Olivia cuts her hair off, starts a fad, and stays on billboard charts at number one for 10 weeks
Make A Move On Me - superstar Olivia sings her sexy way into the top 10 again
Landslide - top 20 in Europe, tepid hit in the USA, imaginative song
Heart Attack- a filler for a greatest hits album, suprisingly hits number 3 on the charts
Tied Up- another song from the gretaest hits volume 2 album, this one was written better but was a weaker single, top 40 hit
Twist Of Fate- Livvy still riding high on the charts with this song of heavenly intervention, top 5 hit
Livin' In Desperate Times - described as "manic pop", top 40 hit, I love this one
Soul Kiss- naughty naughty, she sings about getting down on her knees, you do the math, top 20 hit in the USA
The Best Of Me-duet with David Foster, great song, didn't chart well suprisingly, made top 100 on the charts
Can't We Talk It Over In Bed- the 2nd single from the Rumour album, odd choice but nice to see it getting some attention, no chart position
The Rumour-Elton John wrote it and did back up vocals, great song from album of same name, top 60 hit
Reach Out For Me-remake of Burt Bacharach classic from her lullaby album dedicated to her daughter
Deeper Than A River -a new song added to a 1992 greatest hits collection, adult contempoary hit, not as a big hit as the other single from the album though
Grease Mega-Mix -a compilation of the hit songs from the movie
I Honestly Love You -1998 remake of her 1974 classic, this time she sings it with Babyface, and marks her short lived return to country music, performed decent on the charts, making this the 3rd time it charted
