Free Music Review: The greatest current country album
Hit: 5 Stars

A wonderful album, you can even talk about it as a must hear. Olivia Newton-John's "Sordid Lives" is amazingly great, along with her renditions of traditional hymns and a re-release of her 1994 album "Gaia" track "Trust yourself". George S. Clinton's tracks are as swell... just give it a spin and you'll knwo what I mean ...

Free Music Review: Music from "Sordid Lives", the movie
Hit: 5 Stars

We used it for a comedy pantomime show to raise money for charity. We were pleasantly surprised at how many people in the audience had seen the movie and loved it. Anyone that liked the movie will enjoy the soundtrack, which includes not only many songs that were played in the background, but also some classic dialog from several scences.

Wonderful film portraying the struggles of being gay in a homophobic society using comedy as a medium. This film is a classic.

Free Music Review: Endearing Olivia, Clinton and Small Talk
Hit: 4 Stars

I found the soundtrack to "Sordid Lives" quite enjoyable, both from a musical and personal point of view. In particular, George Clinton and Olivia Newton-John offer a number of standout tracks including the title song, sung by Olivia with a tongue-in-cheek lyric that defies everything else she's ever done. To hear the "girl next door" sing a line like "looking at a really ... prize" is unexpected and wonderful at once. Clinton's contributions make me want to go out and purchase more of his unique sounds. "In Daddy's Eyes" is special, as are two songs by a newcomer Kacey Jones. Another terrific title is "Please Don't Be Gay" which is funny, exhuberant and a plea many admirers of gay men have often uttered.

Perhaps the best reason to get this album, however, is the dialogue lifted directly from the film including segments with Delta Burke, Bonnie Bedelia, and Beau Bridges. Speaking of Beau, there's a classic track here "Get off the Cross, Honey we Need the Wood" which I have adopted recently as a great way to remind myself and others that there are bigger problems in the world than what we should wear, or whom we should love (or not.)

Perhaps most telling, given the recent attacks on the US, songs like "Will the Circle Be Unbroken," "Coming Home" and the aforementioned "In Daddy's Eyes" speak to the resilience of the human spirit. "Sordid Lives" may never make anyone's top ten list of must have soundtracks, but it successfully walks the line between humor and substance in a way rarely seen in today's hits-for-hits-sake-laden movie tie-ins. I found it warm, embracing and absolutely fun!
