Free Music Review: " Olivia's Totally Hot Groove "

Totally Hot, recorded in 1978 Hollywood California and mixed at Indigo Ranch Malibu Ca. The Hollywood crowd of the 1970's consisted of many avid Disco fans. Disco was at it's peak during this period and Olivia Newton John knew how to capatalize on the Disco craze. So it is no wonder that thumping Disco beats highlight this album. Olivia fits right in with the look, the talent and the attitude of the 70's.
What sets this apart from her other recordings is the fine mix of instrumentation and musicianship. The superb musical arrangements also help in making "Totally Hot" a totally hot album. I have seen Olivia Newton John in concert so I can tell you with absolute certainty that she is "The Real Deal" !!
She can sing it all. From country to Rock and everything in between. She does it all !!

Please Dont Keep Me Waiting -- a disco beat with a little Rock n Roll flavor thrown in. Very keyboard influenced with a lively synthesizer solo. Solid bass and drums including a bass guitar solo. Olivia cuts loose with some funky vocal ad-libs through the ending portion. She displays her vocal range by belting out extreme highs and awesome lows. "WOW" She's got range !!
Talk To Me -- a disco-ish beat again with some disco funk style vocal phrasing. Features a powerhouse horn section. Reminiscent of the famed Chicago's horn section. Percussion virtuoso Lenny Castro also lends his talents.
Deeper Than The Night -- is deep indeed. Heavy disco beat. The solid drumming creates a feel that's guaranteed to get you on your feet. Olivia feels it too when she gets down deep and dirty with her groove. Good dynamics to this song and nice background vocals.
A Little More Love -- is a medium paced Rocker. Edgy sounding rhythmic guitar chords during the verses. The catchy chorus will have you singing along. Creative bass guitar and drums. A tasteful blend of drum patterns to get you dancing.
Never Enough -- is a beautiful flowing ballad which features wonderful acoustic guitars. An interesting synthesizer solo. Nice drum mix !! Excellent vocals from Olivia !!
Boats Against The Current -- a slower ballad. A great intro with just the piano and vocals. There is only one word that describes Olivia's vocals. "AWESOME" !!!! She is the ballad master with heartfelt emotion and sincerety. It is worth pionting out that playing drums during a ballad of this caliber requires real talent and drummer Mike Botts does just that. Tasteful without being overbearing.
Gimme Some Lovin -- is a super cool rendition of a Mowtown Classic. A heavy Rock n Roll feel. Dynamic and exciting !! Olivia must have had trouble standing still during the recording sessions. You gotta move with this one. This is a dancing favorite. Strong bass guitar patterns and syncopated keyboards keep things hopping. Powerful thumping tom toms from the drums. A nine piece vocal group completes the ensemble.
