Free Music Notes for OnceFree Music Review: Well Deserved!!! Hit: 5 StarsUp until now, I had never taken the time to offer my perspective on music. This amazing soundtrack well deserves the effort! When I heard ,"Falling Slowly", for the first time, I cried. I then found out that there was a soundtrack and purchased it and the movie. I was totally blown away. I can not get enough. I now want to acquire all music from, "The Frames". I wish them continued success within themselves, for it is well deserved.
Free Music Review: Sweet sweet movie... one you'll watch more than once Hit: 5 StarsI missed ONCE on the big screen--it wasn't in theaters for long. I ordered the DVD a-s-a-p. It's a sweet movie and one you'll watch several times, each time catching a wry comment you missed the first time from Glenn or Marketa... Glenn repairs vacuums in his Dad's shop by day and is a Dublin street-singer by night. "Mar" passes the street singer daily and is taken by Glenn's guitar playing and voice; Glenn has little time for chatting but does tell "Mar" he repairs vacuums by day.
Mar just happens to have a broken vacuum. The scene where she arrives pulling the bright blue vacuum by it's long hose through crowded Dublin streets made me laugh out loud. She has a break-out smile that punctuates her serious style of conversation (which Glenn can't ignore). She's persistent in getting to know him and he finally agrees to have tea with her one night when his gig ends. They go off into the crowded night--he carrying his guitar and she trailing the vacuum through the crowds (the repair shop had closed for the night). Great songs throughout but listen for Glenn's impromptu strumming and lyric on the bus (after "Mar" persists in knowing what happened to his former girlfriend): "I'm Just a Broken-Hearted, Hoover-Fixin,' Sucker Guy."
I had to know MORE about Glen and Marketa and the soundtrack CD came with a bonus DVD, a visually lovely get-to-know Glen and Marketa.
Free Music Review: One of the best albums ever Hit: 5 StarsThis movie and disc are fantastic. The music is so good that its painful... Thank you Once!
Free Music Review: GOLDEN Hit: 5 StarsSimply the best.. I love you Glen & Marketa for such beautiful songs of truth and conviction. This is for WPBIP who left a neg review..like with all types of music it is all a matter of taste. You either have it or you don't and it's quite obvious you don't. Star Star teach me how to Shine!!!
Free Music Review: Quite possibly the most overrated soundtrack of all time Hit: 1 StarsIf you only read one sentence of this review, let it be this one: listen to the samples of these songs before you buy. This CD is excruciatingly awful. It's as though a truly talentless soul looked into the mirror, realized that only drunks and coyotes would appreciate his voice, and decided he's better make a movie about the songs he wrote if he wanted anyone to listen to them.
Success!
The sad part is the music is awful. Really awful. There are, quite literally, thousands and thousands of street musicians out there right now playing for change who can sing better than Glen Hansard. Thousands!
However, a lot of people fall in love with an image, and they turn their ears off when they're feeling sentimental. This is unfortunate, because I detest seeing people get praise and money and swollen egos when they don't deserve any of it (please think of the band Plain White Tees for a second).
I would never have thought of reviewing this CD if I hadn't have remembered how many laughs I got from friends after the movie came out and I mimicked Mr. Hansard's howling croonage. Then it won an Academy Award (??!?!?!???) and people began purchasing this album. Ugghh.
Listen before you buy (it's free).
