Free Music Review: "Once" is not enough Hit: 5 StarsHands down, this has to be the best movie I've seen in years. I've watched it 4 times already and try to spread the word about it to all my friends and their friends. A simple story to be remembered forever by the brilliant song writing, singing and music. This movie had me laughing and crying and singing. Magnificent!
Free Music Review: Awesome Movie, Songs are even better!!!!!!!!!!! Hit: 5 StarsOh my God, on Saturday around 1:00 a.m. I saw this movie and I have not been able to get the music out of my head...wonderful movie, great songs, personally I had never heard of this Iris singer or the Frames, but after watching this movie, I'll be purchasing this cd and his previous cd's the music is just captivating...I'm driving my husband crazy just talking about this movie... if you enjoy good music this is it...
Free Music Review: I'm a fan. Hit: 5 StarsI now own the regular CD soundtrack, the movie DVD, the download from Napster, and now this "Collector's" CD + DVD. Yeah, I'm kind of taken with this music, the movie, the artists, ... all of it. The extra DVD alone is worth the price. It contains some neat live performances, but the part I enjoyed most was the extended interview with Glen and Marketa at their home in Ireland. Glen comments on how in their case life imitates art imitates life in an exhilarating and complex way. It's very clear from the obvious joy they share in each other and in their work that they are as amazed and pleased as we are.
Free Music Review: Get this for the DVD! Hit: 5 StarsI originally saw this movie about six months ago and was quite impressed with the raw performances of both of these musicians-turned-actors. The lyrics and placement of each song flowed seamlessly in the movie, and to that, kudos to the director! I bought the CD & DVD as a present for X-mas and the DVD alone, is worth the purchase. As a Chicago resident and student at the Old Town School of Folk Music, seeing them perform live in front of this great establishment brought goosebumps! Also, as big fan of Morning Becomes Eclectic on KCRW, the in-studio performances are nice to have. As a final note, the documentary provides narratives from the director and the actors, and as corny as it might sound, it's touching to observe that the chemistry on-screen between Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova exists in real life as well!
