Free Music Review: Before I started losing faith in Bad Boy

With their third flawless album in a row, 112 proved that they were beasts. If you didn't believe them than, four years later they most definitely proved it after they left Bad Boy and still managed to produce a flawless album, proving that Bad Boy didn't make them, they made Bad Boy!! This album was released while I still considered myself a Bad Boy fan. I loved 112, I loved Total, I loved Faith, I loved Biggie, I was loving Carl Thomas' album, and I even liked Puff's albums. However, little did I know, not too much later would I start losing respect for the label as all my favorite artists and groups left it, and were replaced with new groups that simply weren't anything too special. The only important artist that still remains on the label today is Mario Winans who I haven't heard anything from (in terms of his singing career) in over four years.
Anyway... with my love for all five of 112's albums, its hard for me to say which is my favorite. But I can say for a fact this one would without a doubt never be placed at that bottom of the list. Although, I love 112's swagger, playfulness and freakiness in the successful hit "Peaches & Cream", I felt it wasn't a good spokesman for the album, because although it gained them a hit, it didn't help gain them respect. I thought "It's Over Now" was a much better single to release, but I was disappointed that it wasn't too successful. However, this album doesn't get great until you get passed the singles and get deep into the album. One of the first things that really pulls you into the album is Mike's deep powerful voice taking the lead on "Missing You", a catchy ballad penned by no one else but 112's Daron & Q. One of my absolute favorite tracks on the album is "Don't Hate Me", in which they bash back at the men of the women they seduce. "...you have the audacity runnin' up on me, tryin' to talk to me, checkin' me, when you need to be checkin' yourself clown, keepin' your girl from screwin' around" Slim shouts in the second verse. And you already know you can't have a 112 album without some freaky love making music. The best song that fits that description on this album, is the sexy "Sweet Love", which is probably the best love-making song 112 has ever made. The throbbing beat, Mike's soft seductive voice, and Daron's trembling vocals make you speechles and put you in a trance. Another one of my favorites is the somewhat dark, dramatic sounding track, "Caught Up", a song about getting caught up in a love triangle and fearing the loss of a lover as a result of it. Some of my other favorites are "Smile", a ballad in which they try to convince a girl who's down that they can make her smile, and "Do What You Gotta Do", a song about a man confessing to his woman that he's leaving her for a better woman, and he's happy and content with his decision and not sorry.
IN CLOSING: THIS IS A GREAT ALBUM BY MY FAVORITE GUY GROUP OF ALL TIME AND COULDN'T IMAGINE NOT HAVING IT IN MY CD COLLECTION

Since New Edition and Boyz II Men ceded their R&B group throne of the '80s and early '90s, it's been hard to keep up with the myriad groups that have tried to take their place. But Bad Boy's resident gentlemen, 112, have always stood out from the crowd. Their latest release, Part III, further solidifies the group's appeal. On "It's Over Now," the album's first single, the group does what they do best: combining impressive vocals with Bad Boy's trademark hip-hop production. Likewise, on "Dance with Me," an intricately produced song with an infectious heartbeat bass line, the group reminds listeners that their singing ability is in a league of its own. Part III is not without its shortcomings, however. Songs like "I Think" and "Player," two monotonous attempts at romantic ballads, could have been deleted from the album without being missed. To the group's credit, however, Part III is one of the most varied and truly captivating albums that the R&B world has seen in a long time. From beautiful harmonizing to upbeat party pleasers, Part III places the four members of 112 up there with the legends of their genre. --Felicia A. WilksR&B Music CDs
