Free Music Notes for Open RoadFree Music Review: WHO NEEDS TAKE THAT?..... Hit: 5 Stars
When you have the talent that Gary Barlow has? He's made a wonderful transition from a teenage pop music icon to a respectable Adult Contemporary artist. If Gary keeps up this work, he'll be around for a long time to come.
Free Music Review: Fine Adult Contemporary Hit: 5 Stars
He has more than capable vocals for the music be does. If you like A.C. or romantic and emotionally passionate music, this CD is for you. He has great vocals throughout the entire album. He is a great songwriter as well.
Free Music Review: Easy to listen to... Hit: 5 Stars
This CD is fun, easy to listen to, and features a very talented singer in Gary Barolw. Sometimes, a little bubble gum pop isn't such a bad thing.
Free Music Review: Go on then, Gary! Hit: 4 Stars
Open Road is the solo debut of former Take That singer Gary Barlow. Take That, a major act in the UK and Europe, hit it big here in the US with a song called "Back for Good". The US release of Gary's solo album features a live version of Gary singing this song, but that is far from the highlight of the album. Though most of the songs were writen by other artists, Gary does demonstrate that he is more than just a former teen idol. The title song is a reflective piece in which Gary realizes that the person he's been waiting to rescue him was he himself. Also included is "Forever Love", the first single from the UK release, but not released as a single here in the US. Among the highlights of the album, Gary does a version of a Madonna-penned song entitled "Love Won't Wait", a remake of Joe Diffles' "So Help Me Girl", a Spice Girls reject entitled "Lay Down For Love", and a cover of Johnny Bristol's old 70's classic "Hang On In There Baby". The album, good as it is, still seems a bit weak as many of the themes, rhythms, and melodies are similar. This is why I rate the album 4 stars instead of 5, otherwise the performance Gary delivers is wonderful. Many have said Gary is the George Michael of the 90's, however to say so would indicate that George Michael is not the George Michael of the 90's. Gary, though similar in style is best described as the Take That boy who grew up "Superhero".
