Free Music Notes for Damnation

Free Music Review: Different, but undoubtedly Opeth and elegantly stunning.
Hit: 5 Stars

Behold, "Damnation," Opeth's second half of their double album, along with "Deliverance," naturally. Contrary to its title, this CD is tranquil and selene throughout. Please, though, do not implant it on your brain that this disc is 'too light'. However, it is like nothing Opeth has ever done before. There remain no transitions from death metal elements to equableness on "Damnation". That's not to say they dont reappear on "Ghost Reveries," so fear not. I feel that this album does not provide the listener with that signature Opeth 'experience', let me finish before you begin to think I don't love this album. It doesn't give that signature Opeth 'experience' because it gives a brand NEW experience to the listener, which was the purpose of the double album release. In doing this, Opeth has showed both sides of their playing style, and that the two musn't constantly be taking turns in a single track to sound great, each style is its own unique Opeth genre. In my opinion, "Damnation" is the more diverse playing style of the two albums, just because this is much more than than the frequently-occuring yet still dreamy acoustic sections of Opeth's compositions. Still, "Deliverance" remains my favorite of the two, due to its leaving me in utter awe each time i hear it. Skip picking this up, and you will regret it. Do NOT be afraid of an experiment. Thank you for your time.

Free Music Review: Part 2: Damnation
Hit: 5 Stars

This is a complete 180 than what Opeth did on Deliverance... and what an awesome direction they took on Damnation! Musically, it's softer, but a lot more intense and resonant than their music ever has been. Most of the songs on Damnation are very, very moving. The lyrics are probably some of the best lyrics ever, and Mikael Akerfelt's vocals are filled with sorrow, and are beautiful. He proves that you don't need to growl to get your message across, especially about a poignant topic (the death of a relationship has been speculated for the muse of both albums).

"Windowpane" is probably my pick for best Opeth song ever. It's 8 minutes long (and surprisingly, the longest song on the album: they trimmed down the lengths of the songs for Damnation), and contains bluesy guitar solos, eerie and haunting riffs, and awesome mellotron passages, courtesy of Steven Wilson. Other awesome songs on this album, besides all of them, are "In My Time of Need," "Hope Leaves," and "To Rid the Disease."

Damnation serves as the perfect companion piece to Deliverance. Both albums represent Opeth with different atmospheres, different emotions, and different sounds. I prefer Damnation out of the 2, because I prefer this style of music over death metal, although Opeth is probably the best at that particular genre.

Free Music Review: To Franky from TX....You are an idiot.
Hit: 5 Stars

Here's why:
I just read your "review" of Opeth's Damnation and know deep down in my heart that you are probably 15 years old so I should forgive you for being a dumbass.
First thing- the "music" YOU listen to is crap. Papa Roach? You lost all of your credibility right there. Then there is the other garbage you listen to...Trapt, Tap-root...wow did Mtv create you as their mainstream teeny bopper moron? Then in your other reviews you have the gal to compare Rage Against the Machine and System of a Down to ...P.O.D? What the...? You sir are an idiot. Rage and System are probably the only 2 mainstream bands that had any value to come out of America in the past 10 years. Back on track.
To compare Staind to Opeth is like comparing $hit to the opposite of $hit. You claim America created Prog rock with Pink Floyd....PINK FLOYD ISN'T AMERICAN YOU MORON. Last thing, I'm assuming that either you are a typical moron hick from Texas (which is probably true) or you are just reviewing possible good albums poorly because either: A. You dont have any talent yourself or B. You are just trying to get a rise out of people for attention.
If you are the future of this country then we are all screwed. God help us all.
This album was great and I recommend it to people who have good taste in music.

Free Music Review: NOT POSER 5 Stars

Why do poeple keep saying this is poser metal! This is not metal at all and isnt trying to be! This is a all acostic album period. So people buying this album thinking it is metal stop complaining and tell your friends to stop telling people this is metal! Now Opeth IS A METAL BAND!!! Every other album by this band has METAL RIFFS GALOUR!!! This is an experimental album that i think is very good and well done. The musicianship this band posseses is amazing! Now please dont buy this album thinking it is metal! Opeth is not your tyical death metal band either! None of there songs are about death at all!!! They are not sell outs either. Their first album switches back and forth from Heavy to Soft!!! And if you listen to RAP please dont listen to this and give it a bad review, just like i wouldnt listen to RAP (being a rock lover) and give 50 cent a bad review!!! And STUPID people stop saying that Limp Bizket, Good Charlot, Blink 182, is metal!!! No its not!!! And I'm sorry but they didnt start Metal either!!! And Slipknot, My Chemical Romance, Atreu, and all other bands are not metal!!! They are a breed of steeming CRAP that has spawned from pathetic EMOS!!! And they are what i like to call POP METAL!!! Metal that little queers listen to because they think their lives are in the toliet!!!

Free Music Review: I don't know where to begin.......
Hit: 5 Stars

What an AMAZING band. An INCREDIBLE piece of music. With Opeth, you HAVE to appreciate there musicianship. Akerfeldt is a musical genius. It's as if we are wandering in his head bouncing from the left side of his brain to the other side. Lopez, well, what can be said about him. Folks think that just because you can pound and hammer out music on the drumkit with ferosity as he does, that this guy is limited in his playing. Since he left Opeth, I hope he's still practicing and playing and will have some new music out soon! Peter, I'm sure will get work. His guitaring is masterful at worst and really complimented the band and vice versa. Mendez' fingers barely touched the strings of his bass and when it did, such gentleness and you can actually hear him playng different chords! Per (on keys) haunt the cd so lovely. I think this is his first with the band. I could be wrong (please be kind if I am) but you can tell that he has been classically trianed. Akerfeldt. Well, this guy is genius and you can tell that his sense of music does't travel down that narrow tunnel that soooooo many bands (particularly death metal) are trapped under. This band travels the whole spectrum of good music. Great CD.
