Free Music Notes for My Arms, Your HearseFree Music Review: Another amazing Opeth cd Hit: 5 Stars
Opeth is one of the top progressive death metal bands in the world today. They combine soft, melodic vocals and melodies with crushing riffs and intense vocals. No one else can do what they've been doing today.
I've heard comparisons to Opeth with the likes of Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, and even Queen. Why is this? Because they're doing stuff that no one else has done before, and making it perfect. Other bands could try this type of music, but they wouldn't even come close.
In typical Opeth fashion, there will be a nice, soft acoustic part of a song, breaking into a sheer death metal explosion. It's the varying style within all of Opeth's songs that make me able to listen to them over, and over, and over.
Highly recommended for anyone who is interested in good music, but most notably for those who are fans of any sort of European-influenced metal, IE old In Flames (Whoracle, The Jester Race,) Amon Amarth, Dark Tranquillity, etc.
Free Music Review: Opeth's Best, and that's saying a lot Hit: 5 Stars
I first bought Still Life, and I was moderatly impressed with that one. I was never one for progressive metal, but it had a nice mix of accoustics and metal and good song structure. I ended up picking this one up for one reason or another and was infinitly more impressed. I don't know how it happened, but slapped in between Morningrise (which didn't do a whole lot for me, despite the reaction by most Opeth fans) and Still Life (which did't really go above and beyond in my opinion) is this thing. This thing is the perfect mix of death metal and occoustic progressive metal. Every song has it's own atmosphere and every song travels from one place to another. These are elements presented in every Opeth song, but this album just had it all right. Demon of the Fall is my favorite Opeth song released. Either way, this is the heaviest album Opeth has released (with Deliverance falling in second) and it pounds as much as it mends.
Free Music Review: It's Good, Very Good Hit: 5 Stars
Here we have a tortured spirit separated from his loved one by death. To relieve his despairing emotions he joins a metal band and screeches his heart out over it, and to great effect. A very heavy, very depressive album, "My Arms, Your Hearse" is a great underground masterpiece that is fun to overhype.
However, overhyping this record is not an easy task. Songs like "Demon of the Fall", "The Amen Corner", and especially "April Ethereal" are CLASSIC metal songs. (And such cool song titles!) In my opinion the album could only be improved by adding some more piano, some smooth Steve Wilson production, and Martin Lopez behind the drum set. (He's substantially better than the drummer they have working on here.)
But why am I complaining? It's a wonderful record with an awesome title: "MY ARMS, YOUR HEARSE".
Free Music Review: Indescribable Death Metal Hit: 5 Stars
This is my favourite Opeth album. April Ethereal will kick your teeth in with its rumbling double bass mixed with soft interludes. This is a concept album about a man who dies (for unexplained reasons) who longs for his living lover. The songs are told from the ghost's viewpoint through the seasons as his lover slowly moves through her grieving period. The melancholy builds into a crescendo as she slips from his grasp, finally getting over his death and falling into the arms of another man.Demon of the Fall is a classic. The Amen Corner is a multi-faceted movement that will leave you wanting more. Epilogue is a beautiful, Pink Floydesque instrumental that closes the album with an exquisite mark of class. Buy this CD if you are into the more solid side of music. Play it several times, and you will be enchanted by its beauty.
Free Music Review: My Opinion, Your Choice Hit: 5 Stars
Opeth are very unique featuring a wide array of musical genre compacted in a
powerful yet at times delicate metallic manor.
This album alone holds all the potential of their previous albums and is a great starting basis for a new comer. The songs are rather on the long side, so you easily get your moneys worth in length. The quality holds faithful the entire duration too, indicating an even better buy.
I was blindsided when a metal head and a pianist rec amended me this album. While it is metal it doesn't strictly follow the tested true formula, and in fact pioneers itself to jazzy, classical, and acoustic arrangements. The album is very progressive and while songs look long on paper seem short, because they are so good!
Well worth the price new, let alone a used copy.
