Free Music Review: This is the one that got me into Opeth
Hit: 5 Stars

This album is a perfect example of what Opeth is: two extremes. The album has bone crushing metal, and some of the most beautiful classical inluenced passages you will here. This masterpiece starts out with "The Moor". This song is metal at it's best. "The Godhead's Lament" has some awesome riffs and the clean singing is awesome. "Benighted" is probably my favorite mellow Opeth tune. Mikael's vocals just sooth the savage beast. "Moonlapse Vertigo" is one of my top 5 favorite Opeth songs. The interplay between metal and mellow is awesome. I usually don't like the growls but they really fit in this song. "Face of Melinda" has no growls, just great metal and beautiful singing. The final two tracks are the typical Opeth metal tunes. This is one hell of an album. If you are looking for a good start for Opeth, Still Life is a good choice.

Free Music Review: Die Melinda!!
Hit: 5 Stars

Highly addictive....Opeth was recommended to me after I got hooked by Orphaned Land, both being epic and highly crafted metal. Opeth however, is one of the best bands I have ever came across. The lyrics and execution are just top notch...but beyond that, tHE art, the ability of the artist to drow you into the story, through the media of music...wow...music is so powerfull, it stay engraved in your mind long after you heard it, and you keep coming back for more. This is my favorite album among Opeth's discographie, but they are all absolutly amazing, i think even people who are not tuned into metal, would not overlook this masterpiece...life is so short, I'm gratefull for being able to listen to this music in this troubled world, to bad when I'll die I wouldn't be able too listen to this album again....

Free Music Review: a very good purchase
Hit: 5 Stars

I read some customer reviews and listened to some samples, and still felt unsure. I had never heard this band, and was generally sick of rock/metal for years..so I got the album to give it all another chance- and it was one of the best albums I had ever heard. To me, it was great, born of a variety of stylings. It beats the [...] out of 'death metal,' (a genre I normally steer away from)and is just creative as hell. Some of the guitar work is like early Megadeth or Metallica-only on steroids. Then you also have a good bit of actual singing and harmonizing.. Pretty good voice..atmospheric and haunting sounds. Lots of acoustic guitar work -and it perfectly compliments the epic metal sections and growling vocals. Amazing they pulled all that off so well. I can't help but want to crank up the volume.

Free Music Review: Gorgeous!
Hit: 5 Stars

Try not to get the impression Opeth are just another arrogant pseudo-death-metal group. 'Hardcore' metal with no real point-of-view, trying to exploit a fashionable subculture and late-adolescent angsty trend. Opeth take you on a journey. A melancholic legend and enigma unravels on a haunting ancient melodious pathway. The lyrics are strongly emotional, poetic and romantic. Mikael Åkerfeldt sings smoothly with great range and versatility. The music swings between soft mellow guitar, death waltz and exotic metal. I thoroughly enjoyed listening to this album all the way through. I know I've bought a good CD when I can listen to it track by track and still be excited about what's coming up next. This album is like a really good book.

Free Music Review: Masterpiece
Hit: 5 Stars

I am sure I am not alone when I say that this is Opeth's best album to date. It is a concept album with unique lyrics, and a surprising depth.

The balance of heavy sections and clean, acoustic sections is perfect. Excellent guitars throughout the entire album.

Akerfeldt's vocals are amazing! His "throat" vocals are never forced, and possess an unnatural clarity. His "clean" vocals are articulate, dynamic, and agile.

Nobody is like Opeth, and any fan of heavy music and interesting guitarwork should check out this album. Buy it now!
