Free Music Notes for Disney's The Little Mermaid (2008 Original Broadway Cast)

Free Music Review: Better than the original, is that possible?
Hit: 5 Stars

Actually, it is!

At first I was a little swayed by all the negative reviews this show has been getting, but what do critics know? Obviously nothing if they had anything bad to say about this show. Just by the music I can envision it all on stage, I am sincerely hoping for a tour!

I absolutely love Ursula, Sherie Rene Scott has something so Idina Menzel-like to her voice that I can't help but love her! Sierra actually gives Jodi Benson a run for her money and yet gives her own twist on Ariel, not a carbon-copy of Jodi and that's great. Tituss Burgess actually does a great job as Sebastian.

It's always been hard for me to try and even say something is better than the original, but The Little Mermaid pretty much breaks that rule for me.

I guess this show is so optimistic that people overlook it for something more depressing such as Spring Awakening, which is a shame...because I always thought musicals should have something a tad bit positive about it.

Free Music Review: Well worth the money
Hit: 5 Stars

I loved the original movie and was skeptical about this new Broadway musical, especially after such movie-to-Broadway shows like Shrek and Tarzan. However, I was blown away. The new material is reason alone to buy this album. The new material given to Ursela really gives more depth to the character. This seems like a running theme throughout the musical, which is something I can appreciate as an adult. Sierra Boggess is a very good Ariel, and while she is not Jodi Benson, she brings her own flair to the role. Tituss Burgess, I feel, is a much better Sebastian; he is brill in Under the Sea. The new work is excellent and seamless with the original score. I absolutely love songs given to Eric. Also Scuttle's songs are fun. However, hands down the If Only (Quartet) is the best song in the musical. I love the emotion in it. Overall, I would say this album is definitely worth the download cost.

Free Music Review: Perfect experience
Hit: 5 Stars

I saw the show in May. I decided to see the show first then decide whether the CD is worth it. And I was the first to rush to the couter to buy the CD after the show. I personally think the music is simply perfect. Sierra Boggess demonstrate the most beautiful soprano voice I have ever heard. I am glad I bought the CD because when I saw the show somehow her voice is a little low when singing "Part of Your World", Sherie Rene Scott was the primary reason when I decided to see the show in the first place and her songs blew me away. Her voice is powerful and penetrating. Other casts did an amazing job too. And all the new songs added to the show are very good. I especially love "If Only". This song is very a very moving quartet song. Some kind of music that brings you to tears. So I think this CD is definitely worth it, for all that love The Little Mermaid.

Free Music Review: This is a delightful cast recording
Hit: 5 Stars

Composer Alan Menken brings "The Little Mermaid" to the stage nineteen years after it was shown in theaters, and it is still delightful. I felt like I was watching the show just listening to this cast recording. The overture is so fun. Sierra Boggess has a beautiful voice singing tunes like "The World Above" and "Part Of Your World". I love Tittuss Burgess singing "Kiss The Girl" and "Under The Sea". I love the calypso sound of these tracks. Sherie Renee Scott is so good as the evil Ursula. I love her delivery on the songs "Poor Unfortunate Souls" and "I Want The Good Times Back". Norm Lewis has a strong resonant voice on the track "If Only". Sean Palmer is a great singer. He displays both brave and romantic qualities in his voice on the tracks "Fathoms Below" and "Her Voice". I hope to see this show on Broadway some time soon.

Free Music Review: Amazing!! This CD is definitely worth your money!!
Hit: 5 Stars

At first I was a little skeptic with the new songs taking away from the original ones but they fit in perfectly! I absolutely love them all! Sierra Boggess does an excellent job of Ariel (not to mention she sounds like Jodi Benson [her speaking voice]) and I love Sherie Rene Scott is amazing as Ursula!! She brings more to the songs than what the movie Ursula had.

The new songs are awesome. "One Step Closer", Eric's song is one where he teaches Ariel that she can talk without using her voice (in the videos on Youtube, it looks as if it's a flirty, playful scene).

"She's in Love" is a fun song that Ariel's sisters & Flounder sing. It's a cute song.

All in all, this CD is a must have for any Little Mermaid fan, Broadway or not!! I absolutely love it and you will too!
