Free Music Review: One of those perfect movie soundtracks
Hit: 5 Stars

The "Juno" soundtrack is one of those soundtracks (like "Garden State") which is the perfect companion to the film and stands great on its own. Despite having a mix of newer and older acts, there's a sense of cohesion to it. After seeing the movie - which was wonderful and deserves an Oscar - I decided I wanted to get this CD because I loved the music so much too. It was nice to see the soundtrack even ordered the songs so that the song which played during the movie's opening was first and the song sung at the end of the movie was last. Many of the songs are fun and you can sing along to (and sometimes get stuck in your head). Hearing "A Well Respected Man" again reminded me just how good the Kinks were. The tracks by Kimya Dawson and the Moldy Peaches are good enough to make you want to go out and sample their CDs too. "Anyone Else But You" seems to stick with me the most and having both the Moldy Peaches version and the version from the movie with the actors is a treat. Besides that song, there are no other excerpts from the movie, so even if you haven't seen the movie you can appreciate the soundtrack.

Free Music Review: Great Expectations
Hit: 5 Stars

"Juno" is a quirky soundtrack for a quirky film. Oddly, one doesn't need the visuals to feast on the deliciousness of the Moldy Peaches. The soundtrack makes excellent ambient music (it's anti-folk),while at the same time the lyrics' strangeness holds your attention. There are selections from Buddy Holly, Belle&Sebastian, Cat Power, and Velvet Underground. It's wonderfully diverse, yet there's a seamless unity. Sonic Youth's "Superstar" is haunting and eerie. Kimya Dawson and the Moldy Peaches contribute a majority of the songs. There's the hilarious "Tire Swing" with its "you read all the books I recommended" and singable lyrics. "My Rollercoaster" is a bizarre rant, complete with expletives and an anti-Bush tirade. It's stream of consciousness. "Tree Hugger" is at once poignant and comical. Finally, there's the Ellen Page/Michael Cera duet of "Anyone else but you." It's touching and sweet.

"Juno" is a soundtrack with something for everyone. It's quirky and offbeat. You'll want to say, "Silencio! I'm trying to listen" and not be interrupted by your hamburger phone.

Free Music Review: Really great music
Hit: 5 Stars

First of all, this soundtrack is awesome, and there are no bad tracks on the CD. I especially love the punky sounds of Kimya Dawson from the Moldy Peaches, but there is more to this album than just her. It expresses a combination of alternative, punk, rock, rockabilly, and even some pop rock. I also love the older rock and pop rock bands like Velvet Underground, Sonic Youth, Buddy Holly, and Mott the Hoople.

My husband and I watched the movie and half way through I knew I was going to have to the soundtrack. There is another soundtrack for this film, and it has even more tracks. I don't know if it's better though, as I really do like this one. I used the original Moldy Peaches song Anyone Else but You sung by Ellen Page, and Micheal Cera my ringtone when my hubby calls. The ringtone makes me smile every time he calls.

It has become one of my favorite albums, and I haven't tired of listening to it yet.

Thanks for your time, and enjoy!

Free Music Review: Juno Music
Hit: 5 Stars

The wonderfully eclectic choices for the Juno soundtrack were so spot-on, that I have no quibbles whatsoever. They are achingly youthful; the Kimya Dawson-Antsy Pants tracks are suburb split-level duplex rec-room raw. Excellent and fresh as flowers. The opening notes(recognizeble to all 56 year-old men)of Mott The Hopple was a cunning choice as was The Velvet Underground. The album has a stunning range of styles-Sonic Youth, Cat Power, Mateo Messina, The Moldy Peaches, Barry Polisar(who kicks the whole thing off), Belle & Sebatian, even the fun-loving Kinks and Buddy Holly show up(How cool is that!),but it is the playfulness of the lyrics that tie everything into a cohesive collection. Also, the placement of the Kimya Dawson and Antsy Pants tracks provide continuity. The perfect ending duet of the two leads, Michael Cera and Ellen Page, of the movie was a nice final touch. Even Ebert liked it.
