Free Music Notes for JunoFree Music Review: It'll have you swinging from side to side Hit: 5 Stars
This soundtrack is pretty sweet. If you've seen the movie, you have to buy the soundtrack. And the fact that they added a rip of the last scene of the movie makes it extra special. Previous reviews dub Kimya Dawson and the Moldy Peaches as folk acts, but they're actually considered anti-folk. The difference between anti-folk and folk, I don't know, but if either is found on this album, then it's great.
Just get it, and if you don't like it, then give it to somebody who loved the movie. They'll make out with you for it. But don't let it go too far or you'll end up like Juno and Bleeker... which might not be such a bad thing.
Free Music Review: Easy Hit: 5 Stars
While I was watching the movie Juno I was surprised at how much I noticed the music in the movie. There were certainly a few big name artists like The Kinks and Buddy Holly, but the majority was songs I did not know by people I really had not heard of. What they had in common was that they were unusual, most had a good folksy beat, and almost all of them stuck in my head. So much so that I went out and bought the album. There is also another album, which I saw on iTunes, but can't seem to find on Amazon of B-Sides. These are all songs from scenes cut from the movie. It is a great companion piece and has many great songs as well.
Free Music Review: Great anti-folk album Hit: 5 Stars
All in all this is a great CD. Came in yesterday and I've had it on repeat ever since. Kimya Dawson's song are light and upbeat, with beautiful,if sometimes odd, lyrics. The other songs on the CD are in the same vein, light, upbeat folk style love songs. As most people have already said, Ellen Page and Michael Cera's duet is a beautiful cover of the Moldy Peaches "Anyone Else But You".This is one of the few soundtracks I had decided to buy before even leaving the movie theater. From the opening credits song (All I Want is You) I was hooked and hearing "Treehugger" about partway through the movie made up my mind.
Free Music Review: Perfect soundtrack Hit: 5 Stars
"Juno" was an excellent movie, and I was amazed to learn, when I read the liner notes to this soundtrack CD, that the script had been written before any of the songs were selected, because they fit the movie so extremely well (not only in creating appropriate moods for scenes, but also having lyrics remarkably applicable to the movie's characters). It stands on its own as a collection of music, but if you have seen "Juno" it brings you right back into the middle of the movie (it is a movie that sticks in your mind for a long time afterwards). The last movie soundtrack this good was "O Brother Where Art Thou".
Free Music Review: Delightful, un "over-produced" witty music that compliments the movie perfectly Hit: 5 Stars
These unique songs were obviously very carefully chosen for this soundtrack fit the movie "Juno" exactly right. There are no over-achievers on this soundtrack. There is no "background" music. With one minor exception, every song is a song you will want to listen to and explore the lyrics. While there exists a general sense of amateur production to most of the music, it is refreshing, honest, simple and effective in lyric and composition.
I've been listening to it non-stop since I've purchased it and recommended it to everyone from my 60 year old parents to my 24 year old brother and everyone in between.
