Free Music Notes for Kingdom Hearts, Vol. 2Free Music Review: Wonderful video game soundtrack Hit: 5 StarsI only bought this because I wanted "Passion" and "Dearly Beloved," but I was delighted to find that pretty much the whole soundtrack is wonderful, too. I would definitely recommend it. I didn't realize that there were so many different boss battle and Gummi themes!
This is the Japanese version of the soundtrack, by the way. Although "Passion" is sung by the same person (Hikaru Utada) as "Sanctuary," it sounds much more amazing in Japanese. The results are mixed with the Atlantica songs; some of them sound better in Japanese, others were much better in English.
DISC 1
1. Dearly Beloved - Beautiful piano theme they play while the game is loading. I haven't heard the version from the first game, so I can't compare it, but I think they are slightly different.
2. Passion -KINGDOM Orchestra Instrumental Version - A nice, slower instrumental version of "Passion."
3. Passion ~opening version~ - Japanese version of the opening song. As I said, it's awesome.
4. Lazy Afternoons - BGM for when Hayner, Pence, Olette, and Roxas are planning summer vacation activities.
5. Sinister Sundown - Cool BGM for when Roxas encounters Nobodies; often used as battle music.
6. The Escapade - BGM for the Twilight Town minigames (Mail Delivery, Poster Duty, etc.)
7. Dive Into the Heart -Destati- - Slow ominous bad guy music. I think it's the BGM for right before Roxas goes into that boss battle with the giant Nobody.
8. Fragments of Sorrow - Faster version of the above.
9. Tension Rising - Boss battle music
10. Kairi - I guess this is the BGM for when Kairi is moping after Sora and Riku on the Destiny Islands. I don't like this one much.
11. Missing You - Wistful BGM; I think it's for the flashbacks to the first game.
12. The 13th Struggle - Boss battle music
13. Roxas - I think it's the BGM for the scene right before Roxas reunites with Sora.
14. Sora - BGM for the hero's triumphant awakening
15. The Afternoon Streets - Twilight Town's twinkly BGM
16. Working Together - Twilight Town battle/Struggle BGM; CUTEST BATTLE MUSIC EVER
17. Friends In My Heart - BGM for when Sora's saying goodbye to the Twilight Town gang and is surprised to find himself crying. It's got the same melody as "Dearly Beloved."
18. Magical Mystery - BGM for Yen Sid's tower.
19. A Twinkle in the Sky - Worldmap BGM
20. Reviving Hollow Bastion - Hollow Bastion BGM
21. Scherzo Di Notte - Hollow Bastion battle music
22. Laughter and Merriment - Annoying BGM for the Yuna/Rikku/Paine fairies.
23. Desire for All That Is Lost - Boss battle music
24. Organization XIII - Their slow, sad BGM, mostly for when they're standing around, droning on vaguely about their own evilness. :)
25. Gearing Up - Gummi menu BGM
26. Shipmeisters' Shanty - Gummi BGM
27. Blast Off! - Gummi blast off BGM
28. Asteroid Attack - Gummi route BGM
29. Crossing the Finish Line - Gummi completion BGM
30. Waltz of the Damned - Beast's Castle BGM
31. Dance of the Daring - Beast's Castle battle music
32. Hesitation - Annoying ominous BGM, used mostly for Maleficent.
33. Dance to the Death - Boss battle music
34. Beauty and the Beast - Short instrumental version of the song from the movie. The original song is pretty, but this version is awful.
35. The Home of Dragons - BGM for The Land of Dragons (Mulan's world)
36. Fields of Honor - Land of Dragons battle music
37. Apprehension - Ominous music for when you're about to get into a boss battle or something. I don't really like this one.
38. Vim and Vigor - Boss battle music
39. Cloudchasers - Cheerful Gummi route BGM
40. Olympus Coliseum - Awful BGM for the coliseum part of Hercules's world.
41. The Underworld - Much better, though slightly creepy, BGM for the Underworld part of Hercules's world.
42. What Lies Beneath - Sly-sounding Underworld battle music
43. Villains of a Sort - Annoying ominous music similar to track 32 ("Hesitation"); I think it's used for when Hades is being mean to Auron.
44. Rowdy Rumble - I think this is boss battle music.
45. Mickey Mouse Club March - Disney Castle BGM, obviously. :)
46. A Walk in Andante - I forget when this BGM is used. It sounds fairly cheerful.
47. Monochrome Dreams - BGM for Timeless River (the old-school, black-and-white Disney world where you travel back in time).
48. Old Friends, Old Rivals - Timeless River battle music
49. Floating in Bliss - Rather peaceful-sounding Gummi route BGM.
50. Winnie the Pooh - 100 Acre Wood BGM; same tune as the "Winnie the Pooh" theme.
51. Bounce-O-Rama (Speed Up Ver.) - BGM for the Hunny Slider minigame (where you have to collect honey orbs as you zoom along on a honey pot). The slower version for the other Pooh minigames is not on this soundtrack, but I like the fast version better anyway.
DISC 2
1. Isn't It Lovely? - BGM for Atlantica (the Little Mermaid world). I find this one a bit annoying.
2. Let's Sing and Dance! - Short instrumental version of "Swim this Way" that plays when you're practicing for the Atlantica minigames.
3. Swim This Way - I don't like either version of this song, but the melody is definitely better suited to the Japanese language than it is to English.
4. Part of Your World - The original song is so good in the Little Mermaid movie that having to listen to this Japanese video game version is painful.
5. Under the Sea - Awful, for the same reason as above. The only thing that makes this worth listening to is Sora's Japanese voice actor, who does some cute singing.
6. Ursula's Revenge - This song is terrible in both languages.
7. A New Day Is Dawning - I don't really like this song in either language, though I think it's a little better in English. (Except that there's one briefly-heard Japanese voice, I think it's Flounder's, that is adorable!)
8. Nights of the Cursed - Port Royal BGM
9. He's a Pirate - Port Royal battle music. I love the original version of this song from the "Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl" soundtrack, but I still squee even when I hear this tinny video game version of it. :)
10. The Corrupted - Boss battle music
11. Hazardous Highway - Kind of hardcore Gummi route BGM
12. A Day in Agrabah - Agrabah BGM
13. Arabian Dream - Agrabah battle music
14. This is Halloween - Creepy Halloween Town BGM, to the tune of "This is Halloween" from the movie The Nightmare Before Christmas.
15. Spooks of Halloween Town - Halloween Town battle music
16. Adventures in the Savannah - Pride Lands BGM
17. Savannah Pride - Pride Lands battle music. Sometimes it sounds really similar to some of the BGM from the Lion King movie, which is cool.
18. The Encounter - Boss battle music
19. Space Paranoids - Kind of creepy BGM for the Tron world.
20. Byte Bashing - Space Paranoids battle music
21. Sinister Shadows - Boss battle music, I think.
22. The 13th Dilemma - Boss battle music
23. Showdown at Hollow Bastion - Surprisingly short track, especially since it's BGM played during an important sequence in the game with great cutscenes. o.O
24. One-Winged Angel (from Final Fantasy VII) - SEPHIROTH. A heavily ominous piece of battle music designed to throw you off your game when you're trying to fight this gorgeous beast. Unfortunately, this Kingdom Hearts version doesn't go on long enough to get to the prettier parts of the song.
25. Battleship Bravery - Gummi route BGM
26. Sacred Moon - Hauntingly beautiful BGM for The World that Never Was; my favorite world theme.
27. Deep Drive - The World That Never Was battle music
28. Riku - BGM
29. Courage - I think they play this BGM during cutscenes where Sora, Donald, Goofy, Riku, and Kairi are fighting Heartless in the castle.
30. Disappeared - I believe this is the first Xemnas boss battle music, when Sora has to fight alone.
31. A Fight to the Death - I guess this is more Xemnas boss music.
32. Darkness of the Unknown - More Xemnas boss music
33. Passion ~after the battle~ - Slow version of "Passion." I like the faster version better, but this one is also very pretty. After the lyrics are over, it goes into a wordless version of the original "Passion," which is cool.
34. Fantasia alla marcia for piano, chorus and orchestra - End credits BGM
35. Destiny Islands - Epilogue BGM (when Sora and Riku are lounging around by the beach, talking).
36. Hand in Hand - Epilogue BGM (when Kairi comes running up with a message from King Mickey).
37. Sunset Horizons - I think this is the BGM for the secret movie (a teaser trailer for another Kingdom Hearts game).
38. Dearly Beloved -Reprise- - A very gentle version of "Dearly Beloved" that plays when your final stats come up.
