Free Music Notes for OnceFree Music Review: can't get enough of this! Hit: 5 Stars
I saw the movie Once and before it was half finished I was already downloading the soundtrack. This music is really different than what I usually listen to (various mixes but mostly middle eastern, north african and mali music) but I adore this CD! I am also in love with the track "Gold" from Interference. If you see the movie the soundtrack is just that much better because you can relate to the songs and lyrics but it's not a prerequisite! My friends love the soundtrack and they have yet to see the movie. Definitely worth the price (on my playlist I moved Broken Hearted Hoover Fixer Sucker Guy to the end of the list as I find it breaks up the mood having it as #3)
Free Music Review: Fantastic music from the most original film of the year! Hit: 5 Stars
Let me start out by saying that the whole singer/sonwriter genre does not usually appeal to me. That being said, I found myself blown away by this film and its integral soundtrack. Having never heard the Frames (or even seen The Commitments, for that matter) this is my first exposure to Hansard's work. The music features outstanding emotional delivery and execution with lyrical content that is both poignant and catchy. Irglova's voice is unique and hauntingly beautiful. The track "If You Want Me" where she provides the lead vocals was the highlight of the album for me. Even if you don't like singer/songwriter stuff, you may enjoy this one - i did.
Free Music Review: You won't be able to get enough... Hit: 5 Stars
The movie was good, but if you haven't seen it or have no desire to the soundtrack stands on its own.
It is my understanding that the song "Falling Slowly" has become the anthem, but in my opinion it belongs to "If You Want Me". Irglova's haunting and mesmerizing vocals on the first round of the chorus gave me goosebumps upon first listen and brought tears to my eyes (literally). I was so captivated I listened to it four or five times in a row, and now I can't get enough.
This is the kind of music that makes you want run out and take guitar and/or piano lessons and compose a song for your loved one.
Free Music Review: Deserved the Oscar! Hit: 5 Stars
Soundtrack from the 2007 indie film of the same name. Music won the Oscar for music written for a movie. Hansard and Irglova wrote the music and were the leads. Music and story hang together well. Real people in real situations with no Hollywood ending. Hansard is the lead vocal for the Frames. Irglova from Czech Republic is classically trained in music. Their voices blend well and complement one another. Hansard's guitar leads with piano highlights in most numbers. The music stands on its own. 'Falling Slowly' is dynamite. 'Lies' is clever and angry. 'If You Want Me' is seductive. Mostly smooth listening.
Free Music Review: Great Pic, great music Hit: 5 Stars
Normally I don't bother to review things, but this music and movie are so special, I want to help promote them both. I've seen the movie three times and there were only a handful of people in the theater on any of the three occasions. Way too bad - especially when so much garbage out there gets huge numbers. Anyway, I've become a new fan of both the Frames and Glen Hansard. The music he and Merketa make together is exceptional. Everyone I've turned on to them has loved it. Just wish they were getting a bigger audience - they certainly deserve it! Buy the CD, you won't be disappointed.
