Free Music Notes for The Prince Of Egypt: Music From The Original Motion Picture Soundtrack

Free Music Review: Masterpiece
Hit: 5 Stars

This is one of my favorite soundtrack/scores of all time. First of all, the movie is absolutely incredible, and is my favorite animated movie (along with Iron Giant). The soundtrack is equally great. The thing about this soundtrack, is the songs are actually extremely good. They all go well with the film, have great lyrics, and catchy beats. My personal favorite are the film version of "When you Believe" and "The Plagues". Every song from the film is wonderful. Unfortunately, the songs by the pop singers are horribly weak in comparison, but it's never hard to press the skip button a couple times. But as good as the songs are on this album, the definate highlight is the score. Hans Zimmer has outdone himself, creating one of my all time favorite scores. The music goes perfectly with the film, and every score track on the album is excellent. Two of the best tracks I've ever heard, The Red Sea and The Burning Bush, are so grand and beautiful you can't imagine. Only once has Zimmer provided a better score (The Thin Red Line), but this is so extremely close behind it. If you are a film score fan, you must own this cd, even if you are against songs on soundtracks. This is Zimmer in top form, and if you pass it up you will be missing so much. Even friends who aren't the biggest Zimmer fans believe this is his one brilliant work. Grab it now, and you will be listening to it for many, many years to come.

Free Music Review: MAGNIFICENT! - One of the Best Soundtracks in Years!
Hit: 5 Stars

I have had this soundtrack for quite some time, and have until now, put off writing a review of it. When I saw the movie in the theater, I was bowled over by the music. With the DEFINITE EXCEPTION of the pop items, all I can say is, WHAT TREMENDOUS POWER, EPIC SCOPE, AND EMOTION there is behind the music to this movie! Although the cartoon is a good, accurate depiction of the Exodus story, I wonder why such phenomenal music was written for an animated film, and not a costumed, real-life epic such as "The Ten Commandments?"

While viewing "Prince of Egypt," I did keep thinking of Cecil B. DeMille's "The Ten Commandments" and the score written for that movie by Elmer Bernstein. With all deference to Mr. Bernstein as an established, legendary film music composer, the thing that kept coming to mind, was that the music he wrote for "The Ten Commandments" PALES in comparison to what was composed for "Prince of Egypt" by Hans Zimmer. I also kept thinking, it would have been wonderful if music of the same caliber, emotion, and power as that in "Prince of Egypt" had been composed for "The Ten Commandments."

But that is something that will probably never happen, at least in my lifetime. Also, I will forgo comment on my opinion about the Academy Awards not giving this soundtrack its award for best soundtrack of the year, as their priorities as to artistic value lie elsewhere.

Free Music Review: Wonderful Beautiful Music
Hit: 5 Stars

I have only seen the movie once, but it still sticks in my mind, and fortunately I was able to get a copy of this soundtrack...I love music, have grown up listening to many different kinds and learning to appreciate it, and it is a deep part of my life (I've played trumpet since the 6th grade, and I still do and I'm a sophmore in college)...that said I love music that just sucks you in, and you just lose time as it washes over you, raising you up during its joyous moments (like Through Heaven's Eyes, which I am listening too at this moment) or sends chills down your spine and may even make your eyes water, like the chilling and powerful Deliver Us. A movie's soundtrack for me can be something I remember long after I have forgotten the details of the movie, and like this one, can bring me back to a movie much later...I do like some of the contemporary songs on here (even the K-Ci and Jo-Jo rendition of When You Believe, though I much much much prefer the actual songs from the movie). Not since the moment in the Return of the King Soundtrack in The White Tree when the music reaches its height have I had such chills and so much fun listening to a soundtrack that so completely envelopes me. Definitely a worthy buy, especially for the price you can find here on Amazon. If you love powerful movie music, this is a CD you should at least try. And if it's not your cup of tea, I'm sure you know someone who will absolutely love it.

Free Music Review: An absolute MUST
Hit: 5 Stars

My love for this movie and for music scores in general prompted my desire to get this soundtrack. When I did, I couln't stop listening to it. Anyone who has listened to it and can play an instrument will be stunned at what these musicians can do. One thing I noticed about it was that it wasn't repetitive. Sure, there are some reoccurrimg themes in the music, but certainly not to the point of becoming annoying. I could definitely live without the pop artist songs on it though, but the rest of the music is so good that it makes up for this little flaw in the CD. I'm not an expert, so I don't really know how to describe the music...but wait, maybe there's just something there that you can't describe but have to experience for yourself! There are some songs (particularly "The Red Sea" and "The Burning Bush") that literally took my breath away.

Unfortunately for me, my CD wallet was stolen a little while ago, and I bet you'll never guess--this CD was in it! There was a huge hole in my CD collection and it was just plain sad when I'd want to listen to it and it wasn't there. But, as a testement to the quality of this CD, I had to buy it again. Once you have it, you never wanna lose it.

I highly recommend this CD to anyone who is even remotely into instrumental music or to anyone who is a fan of music scores from movies. It's a MUST to have in your collection.

Free Music Review: Excellent, Wunderbar, Tres Bien and so on.
Hit: 5 Stars

It is not often that I buy a CD before I have heard some of it. But when I heard about the excellent music that The Prince of Egypt Soundtrack contains I knew that it was an offer that I couldn't pass up. Songs ranging from modern day pop to traditional herbrew, this CD has it all. With songs by Stephen Shwartz and instrumentals written and produced by Hans Zimmer the music is indescribable. My favorites are The Prince of Egypt (When You Believe) performed by Maraih Carey and Whitney Houston, Deliver Us performed by Ofra Haza and Eden Riegel and River Lullaby performed by Amy Grant. In Deliver Us you can feel the pain and anguish that the Hebrews sing about and Yocheved's desperate tries to save her youngest son Moses. River Lullaby is a continuation of what Yocheved sings to Moses before the part forever. The CD also has songs sung by Boyz II Men, K-Ci and JoJo, and Michelle Pfeiffer. The instrumentals are also a breathtaking addition to the CD. Conducted by Gavin Greenaway, Harry Gregson-Williams and Rupert Gregson-Williams they make you feel that you are in Egypt, a slave and fighting for your freedom. The Hebrew Choir is also one of my favorite parts when they perfume in When You Believe. And Amick Byram does an excellent job illustrating a young man torn between the past and the present. And the movie isn't that bad either. Try it out.
