Free Music Notes for Mad Men

Free Music Review: Madd Men is Crazy
Hit: 5 Stars

This is the best show on TV. Can't stop watching it. Hurry up with the second season on DVD, PLease!

Free Music Review: A superb series
Hit: 5 Stars

One of the best tv dramas I have seen. And I would add pretty accurate for the 60's.

Free Music Review: MADMEN track season 1
Hit: 4 Stars

I agree that the song choice could have been better, The McGuire Sisters' version of "Volare" drives me nuts with their mispronunciation of the Italian word "volare" and Rosemary Clooney's "Botch-A- Me" would not have been among her choice to add (she didn't like doing Mitch Miller's arrangements), overall I think that the song choice and original music merit the soundtrack as being at least a 4 star rating. For the people who are too young to remember AM radio, songs were always cut to the two to three minute mark for airplay. Therefore, complaining that Vic Damone or Bobby Vinton's songs being cut or faded out prematurely must remember that the song would have been heard by most people that way, and in that sense the MADMEN writers/composers are going for the authenticity of the time that is being portrayed.

Free Music Review: A slice of a golden era, with a cherry soundtrack on top
Hit: 4 Stars

The music was used very strategically and poetically in the t.v. series, in fact I can't help associating certain songs with certain scenes (i.e. "Lipstick" playing with Joan in front of the one way glass, Roger talking to her as they 'walk' to his office).
I only wish I could find the Genre that it falls into; David Carbonara did excellent work creating it and the Mad Men Suite for the show, but since he's a contemporary it's difficult to track down similar songs with that distinctive cool jazz feel (and looking up "xylophone", a primary ingredient in his songs and other 60's tunes, just leads to hilarity :).

All in all, the best t.v. soundtrack I've heard since (yes, I admit it) Ally McBeal.

A bit more from David about Mad Men's Soundtrack:
