Free Music Notes for Mad MenFree Music Review: Good mood music Hit: 4 Stars
This is some great music to just sit down and relax with, preferably with a drink.
Free Music Review: Mad Men theme is plagiarized. Hit: 3 Stars
Here's a bit of trivia for you. The opening string-orchestra-theme music from "Mad Men" is actually stolen from the first six bars of the introduction to an arrangement by Enoch Light (of Enoch Light and the Light Brigade) of "Autumn Leaves". The introduction which eventually was used as the "Mad Men" theme quits where the "Autumn Leaves" tune begins and then just repeats for another 8 bars with a heavy Latin/Rock percussion track superimposed over it. I just happened to be listening to the CD "The Most Beautiful Music in the World" by Enoch Light and the Light Brigade when I suddenly recognized the theme music from "Mad Men" (but without the heavy percussion). Curiously, the CD (PRD 5109) was released on the Project3Records label in 1992. The actual recording may be from the 1970's or even earlier (it is discontinued now). Enoch Light recorded in the early 1960's for the Command label (subsequently bought by American Broadcasting Company). So he was certainly prominent during the time frame in which "Mad Men" takes place.
Free Music Review: Disappointment - could have been great - but is not Hit: 3 Stars
This soundtrack could have been great like the show, but instead, corners were cut. First of all, where is Don Cherry's Band of Gold? The Bobby Vinton track cuts off abruptly. Why couldn't a sexy track like Esquivel's Mucha Muchacha have been included as a tribute to Joan, the busty office manager? This soundtrack is a dud and the original score lacks luster !
Free Music Review: Love the show... not so sure about this soundtrack Hit: 2 Stars
I am a Mad Men fiend. My friends and I adore this show and every time I watch it, I want to smoke too much, dress in awesome vintage and of course, sip bourbon at work :) When i first put it on, I was into it. The first half of the soundtrack definitely established a fun mood, but then it seems to just tank towards the end. I can't say I am a fan of the extended theme song either. I still put it on in the background, but it's only after I've listened to other CDs that I liked better. If I had to do it over, I'd probably jsut buy a few of the tracks digitally instead of investing in the whole shabang.
Free Music Review: Mad Men Season One Hit: 1 Stars
The best songs of the TV show were not even on this CD :-(
I would not have purchased it if I could have previewed it first.
