Free Music Notes for Cinderella (1957 Television Cast)Free Music Review: "I didnt know HE could sing". Hit: 4 Stars
For years it was virtually impossible to buy either this version or the 1965 version of Cinderella. I now own both of them on CD. I have always thought that it was too bad that there is no full length version of the original available, and was very happy when the CD came out. Julie Andews is,of course brilliant, and the idea of casting Edie Adams as much younger fairy Godmother a stroke of genius. The real suprise here is Jon Cypher as the Prince. I had forgotten how good a voice he had until an episode of Major Dad when he sang "The Impossible Dream". (He played Dr Carrasco on B'way). Its fun to compare the two productions. I wouldn't presume to say that one is better than the other. I really enjoyed being able to have the original
Free Music Review: Good if Traditional Hit: 4 Stars
My daughter (age 3) got hooked on the more recent version with Brandy etc. We like Julie Andrews so we were happy to get this version -- after all, it was originally written for her! If you're used to the modern version, the music seems a bit slow, and it's missing some nice songs (which Rodgers apparently wrote in later, judging by the credits at the end of the Brandy version). If you like the mature purity of Julie Andrews (it really is an amazing voice) you'll certainly enjoy this version. I was a bit disappointed with the CD as it billed itself as having a lot of extras, when in fact all it has are a couple purely musical (that is, no singing) versions of the songs. I would rather have heard more of the people!
Free Music Review: Julie Andrews is fabulous!!! Hit: 4 Stars
Ms. Julie Andrews has the most gorgeous voice and it sounds wonderful on this recording. Rodgers and Hammerstein wrote Cinderella for her, and it is no wonder why! Any Andrews, Rodgers and Hammerstein, or Broadway fan should buy this CD!
Free Music Review: 1957 Cast CD--Mostly matches score Hit: 4 Stars
The original cast recording matches most of the score. Some vocal songs are not included, a few are done with slightly different arrangements. It's a great reference guide, but don't count on it to be a rehearsal tool.
Free Music Review: By far better than the 1965 version Hit: 4 Stars
The original Cinderella with Julie Andrews is the only way to go. Full of catchy tunes and typical Rogers and Hamerstein music, any fan of musicals should own this CD. The 1957 version is by far the better version.
