Oscar Peterson's ingenious piano technique and Nelson Riddle's beautiful arrangements and skilled orchestrations truly make this album a collector's item on a Silver category. You can't go wrong with any recording that Nelson Riddle arranged and orchestrated with his very own Orchestra. Most of the tracks were taken from the original LP that was recorded in Hollywood, CA on November 8 and 10, 1963 entitled "Oscar Peterson & Nelson Riddle," which is just one of the testaments of Nelson Riddle's many beautiful charts of great style and hallmark of timeless elegance and not to mention the Oscar Peterson Trio's exceptional musicianship.
Listen closely to the intro on "My Foolish Heart," which is somewhat similar to the intro that he charted for one of his many masterpieces, "Moonlight Serenade" sang by the great Chairman of the Board, Frank Sinatra on a lovely album, Moonlight Sinatra. This is one of the best tracks from this set, and one of the most magical moments in my entire listening journey. You'll find all the tunes to be incredibly inspiring and easy on the ears most especially "Someday My Prince Will Come," "A Portrait of Jenny," "My Ship," "Round Midnight" and an original composition by Peterson, "Nightingale."
This is the only Peterson album that was recorded with Riddle, so if you're a fan of the legendary arranger/conductor, you should not miss this recording that will surely capture your tasteful ears. It is an album filled with beauty in all aspects - from Oscar Peterson's piano, Ray Brown's bass guitar, Ed Thigpen's drums to a full orchestra conducted by Nelson Riddle.
