Free Music Review: Thanks to pirate radio
Hit: 4 Stars

I first heard this on a pirate station in Austin Tx. Thanks mystery station. Don't expect horns or Nashville production, the only strings are gut. This is true blues, from the heart. A must buy.

Free Music Review: A True Minstrel of the Blues !!!
Hit: 5 Stars

Being an African-American in my 20s and growing up around others my age who cram their heads with rap & r&b and closed-minded towards this kind of music when I play it, I can definitely relate to the music of Otis Taylor. His music is unlike anything I had ever heard from other blues artists who talk about the same old stuff "My woman left me, yeah baby you look so fine, gimme some whiskey at the bar tonight...." This was my second cd of his after buying "Respect the Dead" and later buying "Truth Is Not Fiction". When I get sick of the ghettoes and the city, I head out to the woods and bayous and listen to Otis Taylor in my truck while thinking on the rural roots of my family, culture, and life itself. I would recommend this cd to anyone with an open-mind and no stereo-type to blues music. The music of Otis Taylor is not to be mistaken for "pop culture blues" like Eric Clapton, John Mayall, or B. B. King. (No offense to these artists, but I have listened to their music and I don't know what they're talking about, nor do I care, and I can not relate to them or their music.) The traditional style of this artist goes further back to a quiet yet darker age of American history implied in this style of blues, so I would recommend this cd to anyone with an ear who has an appreciation and respect for traditional music and culture.

Free Music Review: AMAZING
Hit: 5 Stars

First off, the album has such a wonderful feel to it. Buy it! However, I had the fortunate experience of seeing him perform live, and it went far beyond any expectations I had beforehand. Penetrating, and deep improvs - takes you to a completely different state of mind. The three members are so skilled you forget the need for any other instrument beyond guitars and the bass. I have always been a big fan of percussion, but I would have to say that they carry so much weight with their playing, any addtional inclusion might disrupt the almost perfect chemistry they have working already. I would definitely recommend this album, and look foward to the follow up this spring.

Free Music Review: Awesome - blues with that feeling, great rhythm, no drums
Hit: 5 Stars

Not much else to say. Some pretty darned good blues with a great beat that comes from the guitar and bass; look forward to hearing more from his guy

Free Music Review: This SECOND CD should be in every blues' lovers collection.
Hit: 5 Stars

"Blue Eyed Monster", the first CD by Otis Taylor is a tasty introduction to this second work of art from by him. Not only are his voice and playing skills stellar, the lyrics "mean something" and celebrate the life of the Black person in American. Deserves to be more widely known.
