Free Music Notes for GravityFree Music Review: Mainstream pop, OLP denies thee! Hit: 5 Stars
Gravity came out on Tuesday. Today, Thursday, was the first day I could go out to get it, so I was understandably antsy. Went directly from my just-ended babysitting job to the nearby Circuit City. Didn't find it there, although their computer listed 30 copies, so went a short distance from there to Walmart. They had it.Sitting in the car a short time later. I could've popped it in then and there, but I decided not to. Instead, I contented myself by reading the lyrics...and soon blinked back tears. Raine's lyrics are beautifully poetic, even moreso than in past albums, and contain enough depth and emotion to fill a fountain. Finally getting home, I went to my room after a while, booted up my comp, attached my headphones, and popped it in. 'Floored' is an understatement. "All For You" is appropriately biting and angry, complemented by the softer, but no less biting "Do You Like It". "Somewhere Out There", while seeming a little Creed-ish, is perfect for alternative radio. "Innocent", to me, was like "Made to Heal" on the Spiritual Machines album: ambiguous and likeable. "Made of Steel" and "Not Enough" are lovely, leading up to "Sell My Soul" which is beautifully put together. "Sorry" is softer ear candy. "Bring Back the Sun" conveys the domestic non-bliss of the lyrics evenly. Finally, "A Story About a Girl" is a soft close to the album. All in all, a must-buy. I've heard accusations of OLP going mainstream with this one, but, other than the Creed-like sound of "Somewhere Out There", this album is as unique as each of the last ones.
Free Music Review: good stuff right here Hit: 5 Stars
now it's easy to see that is definitely a slightly more mainstream album then their last four, and that the production was less than stellar, but to call Gravity bad just because it is MTV friendly is rediculous. MTV may be home to some less than impressive acts, but that doesnt make it all garbage. this is one of those cases. it's a good album. Clumsy was my very first cd way back in the day when it was brand new, so i cant be accused of being a new school fan or something. for the records- Spiritual Machines has been my least favorite OLP album yet, being a 9.75 out of 10- but a little to off track. anywho- gravity has some good content. not enough, sell my soul, and bring back the sun are the three strongest, and actually the most downer songs on the cd, but best. this album is 8 great songs framed by two pretty good songs. songs like made of steel, sorry, and somewhere out there are definitely looking for a place on MTV, but are also awfully darn good. And can we honestly blame a new guitarist for less interesting guitar work...he didn't write the songs, did he. it isn't that bad anyway. And Raine Maida still has one of the coolest and most distinctive voices yer gonna hear on alt rock radio anytime in the future. This is a great cd that wont dissapoint fans that dont gauge quality on a band's mainstream popularity. will we all miss some of the quirks? yeah. but every band has to grow eventually, right? buy it. you can still rest comfortably knowing you aren't a Limp Bizkit fan.
Free Music Review: Our Lady Peace's Breakthrough Album Hit: 5 Stars
For some time now, the Canadian band Our Lady Peace has been producing music. They had made 4 albums before they released "Gravity". Unfortunately though, OLP has had little media coverage in the US. Their new album however, has gotten the crowds attention. With a new producer (Bob Rock) and a new guitarist(Steve Mazur), the album has a bit rawer and harder rock sound then their previous albums. But this is just what the band, and fans, were looking for. Using the same guitars and amps producer Bob Rock used to record Metallica and the Cult, the album starts out with a bang with "All For You". From there the album moves on to the catchy tune of "Do You Like It". The album keeps up the intensity with OLP's new hit single "Somewhere Out There". All throughout the album there is great, meaningful lyrics with amazing music to accompany it. Each song is different and unique, unlike other bands where all their songs sound alike. The album slows down and has a bit softer edge at the end, but I think that it flows together perfectly and that those songs belong there. Overall I believe that the album is awesome. Rock is going more mainstream so hopefully OLP will get the credit that they deserve. It's amazing how OLP has changed people's lives with their songs. OLP's songs and concerts are filled with so much energy, power, emotion and passion, that it is impossible to describe. Free Music Review: Amazing Hit: 5 Stars
Our Lady Peace's new release Gravity proves not to be disappointing. After taking a break from regular producer, Arnold Lanni and working with Bob Rock, who has worked with Metallica, Gravity is given more of an edge with guitar inspired tunes like "All for you" and "Do you like it". Gravity also shows it's softer side with the touching ballad "Somewhere out there" that has been rocking the radio airwaves and it's music video that can be seen all over VH1 and MTV. The album also features the inspirational song "Innocent". The song lyrics tell the story of a boy who wishes he was a famous and a insecure girl with Cancer. The Album is also slowed down with songs like "Sell my soul" and "Bring back the sun." Though guitarist Mike Turner left in December of 2001, new guitarist Steve Mazur proves that he can rock with the best of them. You can defenately tell that Mazur is not afraid to dabble with different guitar sounds which makes the record more bold and mature sounding. My personal opinion on the record is 5 out of 5 stars. The record has a good mixture of fast and slow songs, all with amazing lyrics written by Raine Madia. This cd is a cd you can put in your cd player and let play through the whole album. My personal favorites of the cd were "Not enough" and "Sorry". I reccomend this cd to anyone.
Free Music Review: Best Band Ever Hit: 5 Stars
So I never write reviews or say anything but for OLP I have to. I have been listening to Our Lady Peace since I heard Starseed on 89X in Detroit in 1992. I was hooked. This is the best band I have ever heard or seen (by the way the are amazing live). I have heard people say that Gravity is mainstream. I don't think you can ever apply that term to Our Lady Peace. They are not like anything out there. They are unique and original nothing mainstream about them. This album is a little different from the previous but I think that could be said about all their albums. If not why would we buy them. They are different but still amazing. My Ipod is filled with every OLP tune available. Gravity shows the bands growth over the years but stays true to what Our Lady Peace is......undiscribable.
This is a band that I can listen to every one of their CD's from begining to end and love every song. I actually cant choose a favorite because they are all my favoirtes. Gravity is Our Lady Peace. If you are a true fan of OLP then you would see that their music is not meant to be anything but music that when you hear it makes the hair on the back of your neck stand up. That is what Gravity does as well as all the previous OLP CD's.
Enjoy this is an amazing CD and an amazing band. There is nothing out there like this CD or this band. Keep it up OLP!
