Free Music Notes for GravityFree Music Review: Gravity defies all Hit: 5 Stars
I have to say that I was greatly dissapointed...not with the album - but rather with the general response it received. This album defies any law of what "rock" should or shouldn't be; I admit, their sound HAS changed, but definitely NOT for the worst. Any true fan can't blame OLP for wanting to generate album sales and expand their fan base...I mean, a band that exudes such a talent as theirs need not hide in the shadows; they've been around for so long, it's time they received some recognition...this doesn't mean they've sold out. With "Gravity", they've merely touched upon a new formula of music-making. Raine still profoundly conveys himself through each lyrical expression; the songs are neither jaded nor blase, simply well-crafted. People are complaining there's no controversial ideas in the songs - well BIG deal!! There's so much other substance to propel this album. I find, that no matter what mood I'm in, as soon as the record starts playing, I'm caught in whatever emotion the song emits. It's an awesome album, and if you've already bought the first few, there's no point in leaving this on the shelves. I've been an OLP fan for years, and I'm not about to forsake my dedication simply because this album sounds "different" from the rest. Sometimes, things change for the better. This is absolutely one of those times.
Free Music Review: Sorry, but I refuse to turn on OLP like so many have.... Hit: 5 Stars
I think its a joke that so many people are turning on OLP now that they are finally achieving some success in the USA...Yeah, i miss the days when OLP was my little secret around here but im not going to turn on them now..they have evolved with each record, and this one is no exception...I will say that as a whole I probably like Happiness more then this album, but only because the songs stayed fresh, longer...but anyways, just had to get that out..it just bothers me the way some people act..they whine when OLP isnt getting enough attention and now they whine when they get it..rediculous....OLD REVIEW: Let me first start off by saying that I have loved each Our Lady Peace album a bit more than the last one..With that said, this is their biggest leap from one cd to another. Every track on this cd seems as though it could be a single. The first single "somewhere out there" is a nice ballad that although is nice, isnt even close to being the highlight of the album. With great mesmorizing tracks like the slower "sell my soul", to the hard pounding "all for you" this album is destined for greatness. Perhaps the only letdown is the lack of more songs. But oh well I will take 10 great songs anyday over 9 or 10 out great songs out of 15 tracks...Our lady Peace have finally achieved some success in the U.S with this record, and its about time
Free Music Review: PERFECT IN EVERY SENSE OF THE WORD.... Hit: 5 Stars
i've been a fan of OLP since clumsy. their sound was different, their sound was truly unquestionable. while their older style contains songs that a little "weird" (Stealing Babies, All My Friends), the style heard of Gravity is more accessible...more mainstream i guess you could say. while, many OLP fans say that this album is a turn for the worst, i say this is probably their best work to date. it's down to earth, it's beautiful, and it's true. all the emotions are felt, all the words are true, and all the songs have meaning. songs about love, heartbreak, and all the pain that everyone goes through are truly the backbone of this album...that's whats so great about this album...it's about what everyone and anyone has gone through in their lives....everyone can relate. the album is probably the most depressing of any OLP album, but it is also beautiful. songs like Do You Like It and Not Enough really reach into your soul and just grab hold. While songs like All For You and Made of Steel are heavier, they still carry the melody and beauty of the rest of this album. This album, to me, is basically perfect. Powerful choruses, beautiful lyrics, and an excellent, beautful sound. It's really a shame that OLP isn't bigger than what they are...they truly are one of the greatest bands around right now...and this album definately proves it.
Free Music Review: Seminar Reviewers Hit: 5 Stars
If you go to any Back Street Boys album you will find them rated much higher than 4 stars. But you come to a good, inexpensive album like Gravity and you see 4 stars as its average review? I have a theory on to what is happening. What you have are people that are pretending to be OLP fans writing reviews and dogging the band, saying that they have gone in a bad direction. These are seminar reviewers. They really are disgruntled Pearl Jam fans that are upset that Pearl Jam hasn't had a good album, much less a good song in over 5 years. Gravity is a good album. A different album than the others? Yes. Does that mean that OLP stinks now? Because they didn't come out with a song called "Spastic" that sounded a lot like "Clumsy" but just had different lyrics? Ignore the bad reviews. If you liked any of the other OLP albums you will most likely like this one too. My favorite two songs are "Innocent" and "A story about a girl". That's right its the last song. I DID listen to the entire album which is a lot better than our seminar reviewers. Reading some of the other reviews I also learned that an OLP band member was replaced recently. That is great! Now I can join up with him and create a new band called Our Gentleman Peace! thanks for reading.
Free Music Review: Other reviews don't give justice Hit: 5 Stars
Nobody likes those kinds of people who get upset because they liked a group or a song for awhile and finally other people are catching on that it's great, and unfortunately most of the reviews are written by those kinds of people. I am also an OLP fan, have been since the album Clumsy, and I think this album is by far the best they have done, barely topping Spiritual Machines. Who cares if people think they are "selling out" just because they change their sound to be more radio friendly? To me, all songs should be messages from the heart, but messages from the heart should reach other people, and no matter how good a message is, it won't matter what it says if no one hears it. Don't blame the producer for it either. If you look at the album jacket, all the songs were still written by Michael "Raine" Maida, and the idea to change their sound was a conscious one, made by the band members themselves. The producers job is to make happen what the band wants to happen and if they're happy with what they've done and they reach people then it's a great album in my book. The best songs are Bring back the Sun, Innocent, and Sell my Soul, songs with heartfelt messages that anybody in the world can relate to, not just the select few who think something is great because only they "get it."
