Free Music Notes for GravityFree Music Review: Wow. Hit: 5 Stars
Music can move people. It can inspire people. It can hurt people. Our Lady Peace has developed a technique that cannot be described in ANY review here. Raine's voice is purely mesmorizing. Everyone goes through periods of depression, where music can really touch you. Our Lady Peace provides this "welcoming" feeling in every track they put out here in "Gravity."My favorite songs are as follows: "Do You Like It," "Somewhere Out There," "Innocent (possibly my favorite song of all time)," "Man of Steal," "Not Enough," and "Sorry." I cannot praise the song "Innocent" enough. It is the most emotional piece of artwork I have ever come across. It puts me in shivers, quite literally. Our Lady Peace succeeds, among other things, at getting under your skin -- in a good way. You HAVE to take their music to heart; it is imposed on you. The lyrical content is also crucial here. Every song on this album is not "fell in love, broke up" as some may suggest. Every song has a meaning, and it works well to convey an overall meaning: do not give up. Everything works out. Just as this album does. Pick it up right away.
Free Music Review: Another great set of songs from OLP Hit: 5 Stars
Recently, I've fallen on love with "Happiness..." and "Spiritual Machines," and I have been eagerly anticipating the next addition to the OLP discography. I must say that while this is a must-have CD for any OLP (or modern rock) fan, it definitely falls a bit short of my expectations. This album only has ten tracks on it, much like "Spiritual Machines." Somehow though, this disc leaves me wanting more. The melodies and musicianship is as perfect as ever, but somehow these ten songs seem lacking in volume of content. There aren't any epic songs to be found here, where it seemed like every song on "Spiritual Machines" took us on a voyage. "Somewhere Out There" is the closest, but most of the other songs, while all enjoyable, feel hollow due to a lack of lyrical content. What words are present bring the mood together, but it seems that every song is verse-chorus-verse-chorus-bridge-chorus. A tried and true format, but it gets old. Now that I've spend half a page blasting it, I'd like to say that "Gravity" is definitely one of my favorite CDs of 2002, I just wish there were more depth and length to enjoy.
Free Music Review: Our Lady Peace's new album "Gravity" is 'Made of Steel' Hit: 5 Stars
For years, Our Lady Peace has been turning out records with songs containing inspiring lyrics that make anyone think. Yet again, the band has put out a record worth buying. With loads of manufactured popstars and wannabe rock stars, OLP is the answer to anyone wanting real music with real meaning. Their first single, "Somewhere Out There" has launched them into regular VH1 and MTV video rotation and has been put into playlists on rock/alternative stations across the country. Songs such as "Innocent" and "A Story About A Girl" can easily be a target for youth, but the lyrics in every song can be related to anyone: young and old. Some of the past albums' tracks have been somewhat 'dark' and 'deep', and as some have called it, 'depressing'. But for OLP fans and music lovers who really know their music, that's a far fetched statement. This album, hopefully, will prove to those doubters that they are not just another dark Canadian band. This album, as well as its predecessors, is full of songs with meaningful lyrics and is recomended to anyone and everyone who would like to hear something real.
Free Music Review: best since clumsy... Hit: 5 Stars
i know most people don't respect clumsy as one of OLP's best albums, but that is definately one of my all time fav. CDs, so for me to compare Gravity to the afore mentioned cd is a great compliment. I must admit that this cd rocks alot heavier than the previous two OLP albums, however, this a welcome change. The other CD's made you think, this one just just makes u think, wow this kicks a*s! There are a few weak tracks on the CD, but i have only one CD that i have ever found to like every track on the CD (Fuel:Sunburn), so once again this a great compliment. Most of the CD is pure gold. Right now my fav. song is story of a girl, just because of the great transition between the chorus than the rest of the song, but as good as this cd is i'm sure i will have a different fav. in about a week, so instead of rambling on about this CD anymore, i can just say that if u are a fan of any of the current rock trends, or even some of the mid-90's rock scene, then do urself a favor and go purchase this CD, Target, if i can make a suggestion on a place to buy, was only 7.88 when i bought it there yesterday.
Free Music Review: Our Lady Peace's Greatest? Hit: 5 Stars
When i first put in "Gravity" i was hit with more of a rock feel, and from first track thru the last track the vibe keeps up, sure some songs are a little slower than others, but once you put it in, it is so hard to stop listening too, each song is great. The song "innocent" i am assuming will be the next single, it is the most radio friendly song on the cd. While the song "A Story About A Girl" is without a doubt my favorite song. While it is ashame that Turner left, his replacement is not so bad, he just goes for more of the all out rock, with a little less creativity, but maybe on the next album that will all change. The only two things i wish were different about the album is the cover, all four of the previous records had such great and intresting covers, and the producer, Lanni had been with them from the start, and they seem to be getting more and more popular with this album, and it sure would have been nice to see him get popular with them. But if you are a fan of the band, purchase this CD it will get lots of playtime in your CD player.
