Free Music Notes for GravityFree Music Review: 5 stars because it's how they broke America Hit: 5 Stars
I'm American. But I listen to a fair amount of Canadian music. I know Nickelback, Matthew Good, Tragically Hip, Treble Charger, Default, BNL, Crash Test Dummies, all the solo female acts. Granted, this is not the most Our Lady Peace-sounding Our Lady Peace CD, but it is their breakthrough -- the production and interesting lyrics throughout, espec. on their first US top 40 "Somewhere Out There" alone make for a selling package. Plus it's mighty unusual to sing about a girl with purple hair, and sly to mention the name of the CD over and over again. Well, sly enough. Overall, the CD is about the great ups and lows (gravity) about relationships and surviving them. Nothing closer to an anthem like "Life" or "Clumsy" than perhaps the "Somewhere Out There" and "Innocent" tracks, but after all, the OLP fanbase seems to be the Canadian version of Weezer's, and they're not exactly looking for another "sellout" anthem. Buy this CD if you want the top of the middle of the road fare.
Free Music Review: Old fan still lovin it! Hit: 5 Stars
Well, I went out and got 'gravity' yesterday. I still feel that Naveed may be their best work (due to the lack of the 'superman's dead' following they got in the states after that, and the feeling of having all of the original members) but Gravity it's a damn good rock record - and an excellent showcase of olp. The only thing lacking is the feeling of completion from Mike being there...As far as now goes - 8 or 9 years past Naveed, it's great to see that a band can maintain it's integrity though 5 albums and several soundtrack appearences. Gravity blows every other rock record out of the effin water hands down...olp now shares a '5 killer records in a row' status with like the likes of Zeppelin, the Beatles, and Sabbath...(and that's not a title to just through around) Gravity solidifies them into the band our kids will think it's still cool to like in 20 or 30 years. If you don't have it...BUY IT NOW...if you do - make sure you have the rest of the olp catalog. 5 albums, and not one song I skip!
Free Music Review: The Best OLP album yet Hit: 5 Stars
Yes many people are correct in saying that this album is different. But that isn't a bad thing here. It seems to return to the straight forward rocking music off of CLUMSY and even NAVEED. Before this album came out I thought that OLP had peaked with their CLUMSY album and with HAPPINESS, SPIRITUAL MACHINES had started going down the crapper. Especially SPIRITUAL MACHINES seemed to be a major gimmick to try and keep the band interesting. I thought it was too weird for the band's good. It was definately their worse album. GRAVITY seems to fit more with all the new plain rock bands coming out like THE HIVES, THE WHITE STRIPES and THE STROKES. But aside from sounding more like real rock it still manages to sound original. Yes Maida has refrained from making strange sounds with his voice but that was getting old and gettting the band played on the wrong radio stations. On the whole they don't sound like a pop band anymore. They have peaked again with this cd and i hope it helps their career.
Free Music Review: What an emotional release!!! Hit: 5 Stars
Gravity is simply the best OLP album yet. The strength of OLP is Raine's voice and lyrics and on Gravity, they are both remarkable! Somewhere Out There is easily the best song recorded by OLP and Raine lets out an amazing vocal release to such an emotional song. And the vocal release runs all the way through this CD. Not Enough, Sell My Soul, and Bring Back The Sun are instant OLP classics. The only flaw on the CD is the guitar work, which had to be expected with a new guitarist, (give him time to grow with the band) but that is much overcompensated by the emotional release of Raine's vocals which are the heart and soul of this CD and the band as well. This CD is a perfect record to listen to if you've just had a breakup in your life, because it hits all the emotions that can go with it. If you dont find yourself singing along with this CD, especially Somewhere Out There, then you have no emotional release. Everyone should own an OLP CD and this is a great one to pick up.
Free Music Review: What the world has been waiting...... Hit: 5 Stars
The world has been waiting for this cd to come out and now that it has, look out because Our Lady Peace is coming to your city/town to rock you world!!! This new cd from the Canadaian power house group Our Lady Peace, "Gravity", will blow you away. From the opening heavy sounding track,"All For You", to the nice melodies of "Innocent" to the woderfully emotional "Not Enough", this cd has everything that you are looking for with great dollar value!! This time around thay have used allstar producer Bob Rock to challenge them into writing simpler songs that have alot more power and emotion to them. I think a different atmosphere for the guys, the cd being recored in Maui, gave a whole new meaning to all of them, even the latest member Steve Mazur. "This cd is all about four guys in a room playing music together.." says Raine Madia. And that's what it should be all about. I think that it was a wise choice to make a change for the guys, look what they have made, a wonderful album.
