Free Music Notes for Our Lady Peace - Live

Free Music Review: nice performance
Hit: 4 Stars

i wish 4am and hope were on the playlist, but nonetheless, the way they performed the songs were awesome. the mix could have been better that's why it doesn't get the full 5 stars.

I was impressed w/ the new song our time is fading. i also think it's cool they put whatever on there. that's wwe star chris benoit's theme song in case you didn't know. the naveed/life combo was also good. i'd never have thought that they could put something like that together and make it work.

overall, our lady peace did a fine job in this live album, just sucks that it probably could have sounded better if properly mixed right. oh well, what can you do.

Free Music Review: Cool
Hit: 4 Stars

This is my first real introduction to Our Lady Peace and I was pleasantly surprised. I don't get into many new bands (yeah, I know, I sound old. I'm 34), but these guys rock. Not totally sure how I missed these guys when they first came out. Any rate, this is a good live album. Some bands absolutely suck live, but these guys sound good. Some live albums suck, but this one is pretty well done. I guess if you aren't too familiar with the band, this may be a good place to start. The main reason I bought this is for the song "Whatever" and got an album that I can get into.

Free Music Review: Who mastered this?
Hit: 4 Stars

Hey this is a good recording of a really tight band. Gravity and Naveed are just excellent songs and excellent performances.
The mastering really lets this down. It's so crushed to all hell that dynamic peaks are all but lost. Similar to the latest Metallica album - Death magnetic. It hurts your ears after 10 mins of listening!
When will the horrible "Brickwall" mastering trend end. I'd give it another star on the review if it had been mastered less loudly.

Free Music Review: Not the best live band
Hit: 3 Stars

I've been following these guys since the Naveed days. I think that Gravity is one of their strongest albums, and though I've seen them in concert numerous times in the past, it's nice to hear these new songs played live.

However, upon listening to this CD, I must say that I expected a better performance considering how long these guys have been around. Raine sings noticably off-key quite a few times, and his pitch seems too low in songs like "One Man Army". (listen to the album version and this one back to back). He also seems to have trouble hitting some higher notes (for example the chunky extended bridge in "Not Enough") The drums also seem to lack "punch" - most notably the snare. Not sure if this is the fault of the drummer or the actual mixing/recording.

All in all, the energy is definately there, but the performance as a whole is somewhat lacking.

Free Music Review: alright for casual fans, not enough for long time OLP listeners
Hit: 3 Stars

this live cd was alright but didn't meet my expectations, production value was decent, could've been better with a broader selection of tracks. OLP has enough good material to merit a double disk live collection, something that would demand a lot of replay. Many of the performances on this record didn't really reflect the true value of their live act. There is enough singles for casual fans, most people remeber the recent and older hits from the nineties, but for the long time listeners the album just lacks something important.
