Free Music Notes for Street Signs

Free Music Review: Keepin it real
Hit: 5 Stars

Ozomatli brings it all together. If you want some hip-hop, salsa, merengue, blues, jazz and funk, then you will LOVE this CD. It's got a little bit of something for everyone. The instrumentation is creative and their songs are truly from the heart. Great Job you guys, looking forward to the 4th album!

Free Music Review: Now that's blending, baby
Hit: 5 Stars

I've been a fan of Ozo for the last few years, and was thrilled to see that they were coming out with a new album. Although it is a departure from some of their earlier work, I believe that it is definitley a good direction for the band.

Given the fairly exclusive Latin musical influences in the earlier albums, I was excited to see that they've decided to branch out and include musical influences from other cultures. They, as always, have managed to maintain the essential authenticity of the music while giving it that strictly Ozo groove. Now, if they can manage to keep their butts out of trouble (free the ozo 3!) hopefully their next album will reach the same hights as those so far.

Free Music Review: Not my favorite OZO album, but still a must own for music fa
Hit: 4 Stars

Ozomatli is still one of the best bands out there!

It is ashame that they haven't been as well received by the masses as they should be. This band is on my top five bands to see live. If you ever get a chance to see them live, don't deny yourself! I'm on my way to Iraq (activated Army National Guard), and I regret I will be missing their promotional tour of their new album. So do your patriotic duty, and go see them for me, and be converted!

I will just say this about their third album, it still isn't as great as their first one. I did like this one better initially than their second album. But overall, if you want a great music album that gets your feet moving get Street Signs!

PS In response to the obvious cretin who wrote that Chali2na sucks, obviously has never heard good rap. I recommend you checkout Jurasic 5, and listen to 2na crank out some of the best rhymes with the rest of the J5 crew ever put down on tracks. (not to mention Cut Chemist Suite and Super Bowl Sundae, which 2na rhymes on the first OZO album being two of my favorite songs)

Free Music Review: TOO BAD IT'S WACK.
Hit: 3 Stars

No, I am not backing down. Call me a "cretin" (whatever) if you like, but I'm sorry - "Chali 2na" SUCKS every bit as badly as you'd expect from his wack, corny, stupid name. Who the hell brands himself after a canned fish mascot? Yeah, that's clever. I TRIED to be nice, I mean, Ozomatli has a lot of interesting, innovative stuff going on in their oeuvre, but Chali 2na is NOT bringing anything to the party that I - personally - am interested in. And yeah, I know Jurassic 5, and 2na drags all their projects down as well. Without him, they're golden, and so is Ozomatli.

Actually, it seems like MOST really groundbreaking production in hip-hop is cursed with featuring an MC who is at best corny and at worst just plain WACK - and I would include in this category Gift of Gab from Blackalicious and 90% of Del's output - now let me have your hate mail. I can still like all these groups for their strengths, but I'm definitely going to criticize their weaknesses cuz they COULD be totally mind-blowing. My definition of a great MC is Black Thought, or Kweli, or Nas (even though he has released some garbage himself). Compared with any of these, 2na stinks like bad tuna. He sounds like he should be rapping about old ladies who use credit cards at McDonald's.

But let me say again, Ozomatli does some really great stuff, and I've been a fan of sorts ever since I first saw them on the block in LA. They just need to drop the dead weight. In my humble opinion.

Free Music Review: awesome
