Free Music Review: Re-Worked
Hit: 5 Stars

Already familiar with PJ Harvey and owning her first 3 albums, it was really difficult to desribe this album upon first listening. It seemed like she had come full circle though, it had all of the familiar elements I had come to expect from this incredible musician/songwriter but it also seemed completely different and new....all at once. It was a paradox but a fantastic paradox nonetheless and it still is hard to describe. It might just be a maturing, I am not sure but whatever it is , this is good music, fabulous songwriting and excellent production. However, I urge one to listen to her earlier albums first in order to get an idea of the progresson of Harvey's music and I think it may put this album into correct persepctive. Or, you could just listen to this album and revel in its uniqueness and ponder why everything else out there is just so bad, wishing you could hear more music like this instead.

Free Music Review: The Finest Album from One of Rock's Divine Talents
Hit: 5 Stars

Polly Jean Harvey is one of the biggest chameleons in modern rock. From the noisy art-rocker of 1992's "Dry", to the enraged punk of 1993's "Rid of Me", to the hard-rockin' blues mama of 1995's astonishing "To Bring You My Love", and to the solemn sorceress of 1998's great but rather disappointing "Is This Desire?". She changes colors yet again in the 2000 release of "Stories from the City, Stories from the Sea", and trust me, it's a big change. Instead of all of the metaphors of albums like "Is This Desire?", she's more instrested in being happy and telling the world about it. When I first listened to this, I didn't quite warm up to it. Where were all the atmospheric keyboard riffs and religious metaphors that made her other albums so fascinating?. But then I listened to "Big Exit", the brilliant, rousing opener of the album and the best song of her entire career. "Big Exit" made me realize that "Stories" shows that Harvey isn't a dour, dark Euro-goth, she is a talented musician and songwriter that just decided to go for a change of pace. "Stories" is P.J. Harvey's most brilliant album and is definetly worth buying. 2004's vulnerable "Uh Huh Her" is another example of this chameleon's different colors. You should buy that too.

Free Music Review: Her best? Just maybe
Hit: 5 Stars

I didn't like this album when it came out. Why? I'm not sure. It took me a while to really warm up to it, but now that I have, I think it may be her finest work yet. I never thought I'd like anything as much as her first two albums, but I must now give props to this mature, exciting, biting and gorgeous album.

Free Music Review: Happiest PJ Harvey Album
Hit: 5 Stars

This is one of the best albums in Polly Jean's oeuvre. For the first and only time, she reveals the happiness and hearbreak of a relationship, which is the main concept behind the song cycle. As a result, the production is unusually polished with soothing guitar textures and more relaxed vocals. Her next album, "Uh Huh Her," goes back to the stripped down indie rock from her earlier works. She begins with the brilliant high-voltage assault of "Big Exit" and quiets down in the gorgeous "One Line." PJ Harvey ends the album on an ambiguous note, signaling an end to her reverie in New York. Overall, I recommend this album as the most accessible and second only to "To Bring You My Love."

Free Music Review: Wow. Just wow.
Hit: 5 Stars

This album rocks. All over, it's great. PJ Harvey is one of the most influential artists, at least I think so. There isn't a "bad" track on here, they're either great, good, or not your favorite. There's a good mix of fast and slow songs, and it pretty much goes from fast, mid-tempo, slow, fast, slow. The single, "This is Love" is the most single-worthy song on the album. Maybe it's just me, but I don't think that lyrics like "I want a pistol/ I want a gun/ I'm scared, baby/ I wanna run/ This was crazy/ Give me the gun" are family friendly. Instead, "This is love/ This is love/ That I'm feeling/" was chosen.

1. Big Exit: 10/10
2. Good Fortune: 9/10
3. A Place Called Home: 9/10
4. One Line: 8.5/10
5. Beautiful Feeling: 8/10
6. The Whores Hustle and The Hustlers Whore: 9.5/10 a bit heavier than the previous ones. Be prepared to sing along to the lyrics.
7. This Mess We're In: 10/10 Thom Yorke is amazing.
8. You Said Something: 8/10
9. Kamikaze: 11/10 The best song is also the heaviest.
10. This Is Love: 9/10
11. Horses In My Dreams: 8.5/10 Where the album slows down.
12. We Float: 9/10 Good song, but a great way to end the album.

Overall: 109.5/120=91% A-
