Free Music Review: "New" German Cabaret Music - Great Fun

I bought this a few weeks back for a family member, and because Dein ist mein ganzes Herz was a song that my mother played on piano when I was a kid. This is such a wonderful CD. It is German cabaret music, similar to the old British dance hall music of the 1920's and 30's that Paul McCartney and Ray Davies were so good at aping. Anyway, most of the songs are sung in German but some are in English. I get the feeling that Max Raabe is capable of singing anything, any style. He's fabulous. He has a beautiful tenor and a sense of humor in his delivery. One of the best treats on this CD is We are the champions. I think Freddie Mercury would love it. The last 6 notes the band plays in We are the champions are the chorus of We will rock you. That's the way this CD is - there are unexpected musical treats. Granted, you have to be open to such music - I don't think a speed metal-head will enjoy this. But if you like good singing, fine musicians, and a sound that is reminiscent of the music from the Little Rascals, you will enjoy this CD. Great stuff.
