Free Music Review: Panic At The Disco - One Of The Best Albums Of 2008
Hit: 5 Stars

I always thought of Panic At The Disco as just another pop / rock wannabe band similar to Fallout Boy or a host of others. In other words, not a band to be taken seriously. Shortly after this album came out I kept hearing the single "Nine In The Afternoon" on my local music channel, and then caught a live concert broadcast of the band on HDTV. I ended up watching the whole show and something about these guys really captured my attention, so I took a chance on this album. I am certainly glad I did. "Pretty Odd" takes its main influence from The Beatles as there are many similarities to the "Sgt Pepper" era here. The diversity of the album also hearkens back to the days of Queen's more adventurous work like "A Night At The Opera". This is not to say that the album is a retro release. Although it takes influences from the past the band manages to stay modern and fresh. Fans of the band seem to give his album really mixed reviews. The level of maturity between their debut and this album is a giant leap, but some of the band's fans don't seem to be able to handle this. I like every track on this disc and it is right near the top of my best of 2008 list of albums. If you enjoy really well done pop / rock, with a bit of a retro psychedelic, experimental bent this album is a much purchase. With all of the generic bland crap being released these days, "Pretty Odd" is a breath of fresh air. I just hope that the general public can tolerate a popular band that is willing to step out on a limb musically and try something different from their peers.

So I must admit, I have been a fan of panic since right around when they released their first album...three years ago. So i was expecting this album to be quite different. And of course, I've been a fan for three years, so obviously I'm going to have a bias towards them. I mean seriously, this band can do no wrong in my eyes. But on with the review.

I've been waiting verrrry patiently since the announcement of the release date to listen to these songs. I hadn't heard anything but obviously the single "Nine in the Afternoon," (because its INESCAPABLE! ITS EVERYWHERE.) and just a live version of "When the Day Met the Night." So i wasn't really sure to expect. But ever since I bought the album around 4 this afternoon, its been playing on a loop, and it's now 9:30 at night. So needless to say... I love it.. a lot. I must admit it's very different! Not a synth to be heard, but quite the abundance of a clean little brass band.

And the album WAS recorded at Abbey Road. And I will admit I can hear the Beatle's vibe in the songs. But they are themselves and this is a totally different feel. And i love it. I don't feel like I'm trapped in a Chuck Palahniuk novel, and it's just a really happy sound.

Go out and buy Pretty.Odd. if you've been a long time panic fan, or you just want an album with good lyrics, new melodies, and happy summery feels.

Free Music Review: A New Album You Can't Sweat Out
Hit: 5 Stars

i preorderd fever and got it early, didnt really listen to it to much. maybe 4 - 5 times fully from 2005 - 2007 then at the end of summer 2007 i saw two live videos from the reading festival: middle of summer and back to the streets which both have changed there names and the songs themselves a bit, middle of summer (when the day met the night) wasnt that great before they fixed it up the chorus only said in the middle of summer and thats it nothing else.

well after hearing those two songs and loving them i poped out my fevers cd and gave it more of a chance and really really fell in love with it i even bought the special limited edition of fever which was a good choice, that package will get you really into patd. so that whole time i was dying to hear the new album, and now its finally here and its even better than the first cd which i didnt think was possible after falling in love with it, the cd might not be amazing at first or even good to some of you close minded people but it will grow on you, it didnt take much for me to fall in love with it.

please dont not buy this cd cause you see kids saying that it sucks, and dont let that get to your head, give it your own listen and take it in listen a few times. put it on your ipod or mp3 player and sit outside and enjoy it, it really goes well outside with the lyrics about the sun and the moon.

So there first CD was great...it was every college's anthem for a while...played everywhere "indie Darlings"...blah blah blah..we get it...sorry though if you thought they would continue the trend of High School prom night bands...and the Emo/Scene fad..."no girl is bleeding on a ballroom floor in this one for attention"... lucky for those who have an appreciation for music and the absolutely amazing artistic side of things...see that this album is what they really wanted to be, they grew up!!...and with a little bit of Luck and (money and time) they were able to create an album that really represents them as musicans...not just to be heard at some "college Frat party" over and over and over again "a fever" was a great album...but if your looking for high energy Synth's/cute catchy Electric guitar, with "emo" lyrics... you dont really get that in this album..it's a Beatles influenced album with that raw indie voice over top of it...well done...well produced...not over produced techno bullcrap...with some flashing bells and whistles...they brought back tastefully odd old school on us...and that's okay with me...for all the rest...go listen to your fall out boy and cry about it and wait around for the next fad to leach onto...but for those who want to try something new and refreshing but not necassarily original sounding...it's pretty odd sounding.

Free Music Review: Pretty Odd-Very Clever
Hit: 5 Stars

When I first heard that Panic's new album was based off The Beatles and the music of the 60's I didn't believe it, not that they would not do it, but that it wouldn't work. I mean think about it. Here's a band that previous work includes techno-y dance rock and some odd mix between folk and pop-punk. Now they're trying to explore 60's pop and psychedelic rock?! It's hard to believe. Either way I got the album the day it came out only being familiar with the single "Nine in the Afternoon'. As I was driving home with my friend we popped it in. I told him it was based on The Beatles, he was skeptical. In minutes, we were both blown away. Is it possible to be nostalgic and fresh at the same time, because that's what this is. I personally love The Beatles, and find this album absolutely amazing! The Beatles took create years creating the immense sprawling albums like Abbey Road, and it seems that by the second album. Panic has been able to create that same sound. That's not to say that they "ripped off" The Beatles, but wow! Even if you don't appreciate the Beatles, Dylan, and the music that was channeled into this wonderful creation, just the evolution of the band is amazing. Panic is done being Fall Out Boy's little sidekick, They're headlining their own shows, and now they have their own sound to go along with it.
