Free Music Notes for Pretty. Odd.Free Music Review: Pretty Amazing Hit: 5 Stars
"Pretty. Odd." represents a quantum leap forward for Panic at the Disco. Not unlike the Rolling Stones did with "Their Satanic Majesty's Request," Panic has attempted to emulate The Beatles' classic "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band," and in doing so has delivered a shimmering collection of orchestral pop gems. Like the Stones' album, though, "Pretty. Odd." already has a legion of detractors who apparently wanted a retread of Panic's first album. But to the band's immense credit, they not only have the musical chops to pull off the album, but they have the balls to deliver it to a fanbase who are likely to dismiss it. Nothing out right now sounds like this -- their chart topping peers lack the sophisticated orchestration and production, and the lesser known artists aping the styles of The Beatles and ELO often lack the sheer energy that infuses those classic records.
If you don't like Panic, this is the album that will change your mind. If you do, listen with an open mind and you'll realize that Pete Wentz's proteges have the potential to be the most unexpectedly great band of the year.
Free Music Review: HOLY CR*P--Sgt. Pepper meets Jellyfish!! Hit: 5 Stars
Let's get right to the point, shall we? 'Pretty.Odd' is simply an amazing release by this band! If you think in terms of unforgettable pop tunes by the Beatles, such as 'Hello Goodbye' or 'Penny Lane' (or any number of their later output),then you're on the right track. This entire album is chock full of delightful Beatles style,hook-laiden gems! Any detractors are presumably younger folks who dug the band's debut. Although I've only heard samples,it does sound quite different in style to this second offering. And anyone under 30 possibly/most likely wouldn't 'get'/appreciate the awesome musicianship/comparability to The Beatles here. Another highly-touted 'retro-pop' band that springs to mind is Jellyfish. I've heard lots of 'sounds like' compares to their two fab cds over the years, too. Most did NOT come very close (including former members of said band). But I'm happy--no-ECSTATIC,to announce that 'Pretty.Odd' serves up the goods in spades!! Fabulous poprock music and one for the ages. Doesn't get any better than this, folks. 100 stars!! Check samples right here first, but you need this one! Enjoy, T
Free Music Review: The Most Unique Band To Grace Our Fair World!!! Hit: 5 Stars
I cannot stop listening to this album. I am, unlike others, new to Panic at the Disco and I have no idea what their first album was like but I am going to investigate it, however I am a mellow chap and I am filled with cheer to read that some refer to their new album as an unexpected delightful change and puzzled that others, to the point of almost being appalled, say the change is for the worse, as it differs from the punk/rock spirit their first album apparently had.
I'll relish this album always, as I am more a mellow indie kid than anything else and this albums jolly, wordy-ness inspires my imagination as it trips along some sort of never-ending sensual delight, buoyant and jovial. The band members strike me as true artists because they seem to have embraced every musical style while injecting something quintessentially their own. Their obvious enjoyment in what they do is felt in this recording. I heartily recommend their second album!
Also, their video to their hit single 'Nine in the Afternoon,' is fantastic work, very witty and hilarious!
Free Music Review: One of my favorites Hit: 5 Stars
Almost all of my friends LOVE My Chemical Romance, Dashboard Confessional, Mindless Self-Indulgence, etc. But I never liked their music (not the "emo" type).
My sister had bought I Write Sins Not Tragedies when it came out...too much like all the other bands my friends listened too.
I wasn't too excited about Panics new CD, but when my best friend made me listen to it, I was just like "WHOA! I love this!"
It's different, and its a GREAT thing! Lately artists are heading back to what was good about music in the past. Even Christina Aguilara converted her bad girl image for a more jazz inspired attitude.
This new CD reminds me a bit of The Shins, The Beatles, everything good.
I can't stop listening to it. I usually don't ever buy CD's, but right now I just want to go out to the store and buy Pretty Odd.
It is seriously has the best lyrics, catchy rhythms and harmony's, AAAHHH! I just love it!
If you love oldies (a guilty pleasure for EVERYONE), then this CD is seriously a must for the new and old generation.
Free Music Review: Very. Interesting. Hit: 5 Stars
Someone mentioned Panic! to me since they know I also like rock bands and the greats such as The Beatles.
And The Beatles and other influences are all here. They are not trying to be The Beatles, but their is the homage and songwriting structures. Put away the thoughts of thinking of them as just trying to be interesting and non-formulaic and you will enjoy the CD. Other influences also come through.
I didn't know what to expect when I purchased this, though I had heard "Nine In The Afternoon," but from the first song I was hooked. It is a short piece "we're So Starving" and from the moment they say "you" about 30 seconds in and then weave the next you into another beat, well it just makes you have to listen to the rest of the record to hear what happens.
A great mixture of sounds, tones, harmonies and taking chances, though some may be familiar, they still make for a great CD. I have not listened to the earlier records so I cannot make a comparison to what changed or other material they have done.
