Free Music Notes for The Best of Paolo Conte

Free Music Review: Paolo Conte is the Hip Hop Master of Italian Jazz
Hit: 5 Stars

That voice... That smokey interior... That clunky piano on which you can literally imagine the withered hands of a stylish, crankypants old fart plunking away with deft grace... This album kicks so much booty, it should be illegal. Seriously. Paolo Conte is the Rat Pack's illegitimate Italian brother.

Free Music Review: Never got to listen to it .
Hit: 1 Stars

I never received the CD from Amazon despite seveeral e-mails to track down my order . I asked American Express to cancel my charges since there wasn't any response from Amazon .

Free Music Review: Paolo Conte, sublime maestro del jazz...
Hit: 5 Stars

There are several well-written 5-star reviews under THE BEST OF PAOLO CONTE. I suppose I have little to add, but I must say something about my all-time favorite Italian singer-songwriter-musician. Paolo is a true Cool Cat and a sublime singer/songwriter. The man loves life and his tunes and poetry thoroughly enchant. Many of the melodies are hauntingly sweet. His laid-back playfulness and melancholy nostalgia appeal to young and old alike. Even those who say they don't like jazz will likely find themselves won over by Conte's wit and joie de vivre. "THE BEST OF" is the place to start, but I enjoy every Conte CD I own (the song SANDWICH MAN is one of several more recent favorites). The lyrics are more often than not printed in the original Italian (or French) with English translation (as they are on BEST). Compratelo amici, e divertitevi bene!

Free Music Review: Disappointing
Hit: 1 Stars

I'm sorry to be the first one to write a one-star review of this CD, but I cannot give it anything else. After reading the encomiums of previous reviewers, I had high hopes for this. On first listen, you laugh, simply because of the silly, slightly ridiculous ambience that is created. A little entertaining, in fact. However, as one progresses, you find out this sad fact: Paolo Conte doesn't SING! He declaims in a kind of sprechstimme, parlando fashion, very much as Rex Harrison did throughout 'My Fair Lady'. Thus to term Mr. Conte a crooner is a great disservice to the real crooners such as Tony Bennett, or Mel Torme. Yes, there is a certain mood and spirit to his work, but it's not a cd that grabs you and holds you. In short order, the stuff becomes somewhat annoying. If you want true Italian music from someone who actually sings, get Giuseppe di Stefano singing Neapolitan Songs, or even Sergio Franchi doing his thing.

Free Music Review: I defy you not to smile when you hear this
Hit: 5 Stars

I heard this voice while watching the delightful German film, "Mostly Martha." I love the internet. Almost as soon as the film ended, I went online to order this cd after previewing samples. It is one of the most satisfying musical discoveries I've had to date!If Tom Waits and Edith Piaf had a child, he could be Conte. And the fabulous orchestra dazzles as it swings beneath the gravelly voice. Conte knows music and musicianship. While it makes you smile and dance, there is no kitsch here. The music is true and fine. And my three-year-old requests "Happy Feet" on a daily basis as we dance to Paulo in the kitchen.
