Conte startles the listener with his original, confident, and raspy performance. He was a practicing lawyer at one time, but decided to concentrate on his artistic talents, and has become a major star in Italy in the 1970s. In the 1990s, he was finally released in America. His voice blends into his jazzy melodies easily and creates a very pleasant presentation. My favorites on this album are "Via con me" and "Sparring Partner."Free Music Review: Paolo Conte is unique in any language.

The obvious comparison is to Tom Waits, but Paolo Conte shares similarities with other iconoclasts like Van Morrison, Nick Cave, and even Captain Beefheart. Once the charming novelty has worn off, what you're left with is a collection of awesome tunes. My two favorites are "Colleghi trascurati" and "Sparring Partner": eerie and beautiful, and if these were the only two good songs on the CD, I'd still recommend it highly. However, there are other tunes every bit as memorable: "Elisir," "Dragon" (with its Thelonious Monk-like solo), "Ho ballato di tutto," "Via con me," and more. This CD is so strong that I'm convinced that even a 20-song compilation can't do Conte justice, and like me you'll probably want to start looking for the individual CDs. I fell in love with Paolo singing "Via' con me" from the movie French Kiss. I purchased this CD and can't seem to stop playing it over and over. If you like a mature continental sound you will love this CD.Free Music Review: Exceptional music, Unique Lyrics

The light jazzy-cabaret style is one which you will never forget. The music is very catchy. What makes the whole CD come alive is the voice of Paolo Conte himself. His deep, wry voice and unique lyrics make this an album you will listen to again and again. The songs remain in your mind long after stop is pushed.
