Free Music Notes for InfestFree Music Review: It's too bad the world is based on greed Hit: 2 StarsWhen Infest first came out, and even up to about 2 months ago, I held this CD in high regards. I thought Coby's voice was really good and I thought the band could definitely hold their own. However, around 2 months ago I had an itch to go back and listen to Infest again, and, needless to say, I was less than flattered. Either just the recording hasn't aged well, or my once young mind has grown up and out of the whole 'nu metal' genre. Whatever the case, Infest is nothing more than a few good songs now.
If you're in a hurry, you could get away with listening to the first five songs and end up hearing the best this CD has to offer. Infest is an energetic opener with a great chorus and pounding riffs. The downfall comes in the lame rapping though. Last Resort, well, I need not cover that because anyone who didn't live under a rock in 2000 surely knows that song. Broken Home is a halfway decent song, but in no way is anything about it remarkable. Dead Cell, next to Between Angels And Insects is probably the best song featured. While on the topic, Between Angels And Insects still ranks among my favorite of Papa Roach's material. The anger and passion is just up front unlike the other songs included. Aside from the first five tracks, the only other mentionable track is Thrown Away, which is probably the best way to close out this CD, complete with great yelling and driving riffs.
Basically the thing that bothers me about Infest is the overdone rapping. Coby has a nice singing/yelling voice, not a good rapping voice. Not to mention the horrendous lyrics. Probably 9 of the 11 tracks featured have completely forgetable lyrics, which is inexcusable. I've come to the conclusion that Papa Roach is one of the few bands that grows better with each new release. If you are a Papa Roach fan and already like this CD, then I'm not trying to sway your opinion, just in my experience, this CD wasn't what I remembered it being.
My favorite songs are Infest, Dead Cell, Between Angels And Insects, and Thrown Away. For when Infest came out, yes, it was a great CD. However, nowadays, with Papa Roach coming off the incredibly popular Getting Away With Murder, and my personal favorite release, lovehatetragedy, Infest is easily forgotten. That's not to say it doesn't have it's moments, they're just few and far between.
Free Music Review: Best of Papa Roach Hit: 5 StarsWhen i just listened to this album again just a while ago it brought back old memories of what papa roach was like back in 2000. This is an album that is almost perfect. This is also the best of all the Papa Roach albums. They have a unique sound that was lost in their newer album "getting away with murder". After the failure of "love hate tragedy" (which by the way was a GREAT album), papa roach conformed to the sounds of the modern rock bands, so if you want to hear papa roach at their very best, buy this. This still remains one of my favorite albums of all time. It's like one of those albums where if you try to name the best song you keep changing your mind because every song is great.
Free Music Review: Sleeper! Hit: 4 StarsThis is what best desrcibes this album. I wouldn't recommend you buy any of their others, but now that no one remembers they were on the TONY HAWK PRO SKATER game, it is safe to purchase and enjoy... Best song... "Between angels and insects"

Free Music Review: Mixed bag Hit: 3 StarsTo some, Papa Roach represented all that's wrong with nu-metal. They released their major label debut, "Infest," in 2000, so they were somewhat of a Johnny-come-lately to the nu-metal genre. They were labeled both a "baby Bizkit" and a "Rage Against The Machine rip-off," due to their sound's similarity to those bands. But Papa Roach weren't as great as RATM because Papa Roach lack the musical direction/political motivation, and guitarist Jerry Horton can't exactly wail like Tom Morello (the riffs on "Incest" are quite simple). Plus PR frontman Coby Dick seems very uneasy with the vocal style he uses here: rapping. And finally, to make matters worse, these songs lyrics are also rather cliche. All of the usual lyrical themes are covered here, ranging from suicide ("Last Resort") to bad childhoods ("Broken Home") to greed ("Between Angels And Insects") to bad relationships ("Revenge") to addiction ("Binge").
But not all hope is lost, because Coby and the gang clearly know how to write a catchy tune or two. Songs like the pounding title track, the crunchy "Snakes," and "Never Enough" boast big, memorable, fist pumping choruses. Plus, songs like the somewhat creepy and dark hit single, "Last Resort," the speedy, headbanging fourth track, "Dead Cell," and the lurching, headbobbing "Thrown Away," all feature several strong, almost irresistable hooks. Don't be surprised if a few of these songs get stuck in your head all day. And when Papa Roach dabble in melody, they do so effectively. Tracks three, five, ten, and the Sublime-esque, reggae-lite album closer are all very memorable and show that Coby actually has a decent singing voice (which he would use more on later albums).
So, "Infest" isn't at all unique, but it is an OK album. It manages to be a fairly impressive and arresting major label debut. Music fans who love nu-metal or have Y2K nostalgia should definitely own this disc. It's better than some nu-metal you'll hear, including "Chocolate Starfish And The Hot Dog Flavored Water."
