Although it may seem like it cuts off a little short, with less than 40 minutes of playing time, this record is a nu metal masterpiece (and trust me, that word isn't an oxymoron, just listen to System of a Down's first two releses). Now I'll admit... on some songs there are those generic, cliche Papa Roach lyrics, but you'll also notice how well written some of the other songs are. I'd also like to add that all of the band members (yes, including singer Jacoby Shaddix/Coby Dick whatever floats your boat) have talent. Listen to guitarist Jerry Horton's explosive overdriven guitar riffage, then check out "Decompression Period", a song that he recorded with a resonator. Then you have Tobin, the bass player, who uses a 5-string bass, and on many song's a teqnique where he plays along to Jerry's guitar riff on the 5th string, resulting in an extremley low, but very melodic accompaniment to the guitar work (check out songs like "Life is a Bullet" and if you have their debut CD "Blood Brothers"), all using the fingers, no picks. Then of course there's Dave on the drums, who really knows how to just go off with crazy fills and stuff. All their talents combine together for a raw, sharp, and EXPLOSIVE sound, and even if you just want to rock out to something while your cleaning your room or whatever then I think you'll really enjoy this C.D.

The overall sound of this record is amazingly RAW, which is due to using very little or no over dubbing in the studio, making for a C.D. that sounds like it was done in one or two takes. My favorite songs on the album are "Decompression Period", "Born With Nothing, Die With Everything", "Life is a Bullet", as well as their first two singles off this CD, "She Loves Me Not" (which by the way is the ONLY song with rapping on this CD) and "Time and Time Again".

The bottom line is... stop reading these reviews and BUY this cd. You won't be disappointed, even if nu metal isn't really your thing. And if you get a chance to see them live, take it, Papa Roach is awesome live, with vocalist Coby diving into the crowd randomly and giving on stage mohawks.
