Free Music Notes for Riot!

Free Music Review: An insult to good music everywhere.
Hit: 1 Stars

Paramore, led by Haley Williams, is an awful punk band. I believe that their singing is an example of how music has gone down the drain today. I am only a teenager, yet I can see how this garbage exemplifies the "norm" for today's music. Please don't buy this CD. Listen to some decent music.

Free Music Review: They Were Born For This
Hit: 4 Stars

This CD is crammed with ultra-catchy, fast-paced and angsty post-punk pop rock. The boys play tight and charismatic lead singer Hayley Williams sings them just right. Though the whole album is terrific fun, my favorite tracks include "For A Pessimist I'm Pretty Optimistic", "Hallelujah", "Misery Business" and "crushcrushcrush". Paramore slows the pace of the album once, right where it's needed for the listener to catch their breath with the excellent piano-led power ballad "We Are Broken". They end the disc singing 'we were born for this' and I couldn't agree more.

Free Music Review: 3-1/2 stars -- Not bad, but...
Hit: 3 Stars

It's nice to be on the product page of a pop punk album without seeing a whole bunch of one-star reviews from heavy metal fans. Anyway, I originally ignored Paramore after hearing "Misery Business" (sorry; I never liked that song). But I became interested after hearing "Crushcrushcrush", so I then decided to pick up their second album, Riot!

First off, I have to say that although I do think Paramore is a solid band, I don't think they're worth ALL the hype. I think the reason why they're so popular is that a lot of freshman college guys look at lead singer Hayley Williams and are like, "Whoa, what's-her-name is HOT!" Anyway, the best songs on the album are near the end: "Fences", the mellow "We Are Broken", and possibly "Born for This". There are also a few songs that I can do without, like the off-key "Hallelujah"; and sorry, but "That's What You Get" feels like a 13-year-old wrote it. And the obligatory end-of-album acoustic-version-of-the-first-single neither helps nor hurts the album.

Riot is far from being a bad album, but let's be honest: if it weren't for the presence of Hayley, I could easily say that Paramore aren't much different from any other emo band out there. Ah well; the album is still sure to rock a keg party.

This is a great CD! A lot of very good songs on the CD.

Free Music Review: A square peg in a round hole
Hit: 3 Stars

That's what this CD is in my CD collection. I didn't want to like this band, I really didn't. I wanted to see them as another Avril Lavigne wannabe who wanted to ride the coattails of the male dominated rock scene. I wanted this to be another chick band. It certainly didn't seem like anything special musically. The guitars aren't all that special, and they cheat in the studio to get two six strings when the band only has one six string player. The bass is virtually ignored and basically follows the six strings. This had the making of a terrible chick band.

But it's not. And why isn't it? Because for some reason, in the midst of all the sell out MTV trivial bull, this seems almost credible. Almost. Now, I'm not going to penalize a band for becoming popular on MTV if the music is good, because too many people do that and it's really stupid, who cares if they get famous and live luxuriously as long as they stay true to their music. And I think they do this pretty well. I love Haley's voice, it's perfect for the softer songs she sings but then also she can turn the energy up on songs like the opening track and the singles.

I wouldn't lie to you, this band isn't amazing, but it's worth looking at if you're into this sort of thing or even if you're not (I'm not for the most part) Basically I bought this CD for Hayley's voice and because I thought it would be a fun listen, and for the majority of the CD it is. I can appreciate this music even if I can't appreciate the lifestyle or any other artists of this genre.
